Schedule

48 hours per week, Monday through Saturday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Responsibilities

  • Perform duties related to farm and ranch animals (SOC Code 45-2093), including:
    • Assist with milking parlor operations, particularly for cold-stressed cows requiring attentive handling and extended routines
    • Increase bedding frequency and volume to ensure dry, insulated surfaces
    • Push up, refresh, and deliver feed more frequently
  • Maintain, monitor, inspect, and adjust systems for cold conditions:
    • Adjust curtains, windbreaks, ventilation, doors, and dairy equipment
    • Protect cattle by modifying shelter systems as needed
    • Prevent freezing of water lines, waterers, tanks, hoses, valves, and hydrants
    • Thaw, repair, protect, and monitor water access for cows
  • Clear snow from:
    • Feed alleys and piles
    • Cow lanes and barn entrances
    • Loading areas, calf areas, and working facilities
  • Remove ice buildup and apply salt, sand, or other traction materials where needed
  • Maintain safe footing for livestock and workers inside buildings and at all entrances

Work locations include sites in Chippewa, Grant, Kandiyohi, Stevens, Swift, and Traverse counties.

Requirements

  • Two months of recent and verifiable experience performing the listed job duties
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
  • Willingness to work in extreme temperatures
  • Capability to perform extensive pushing, pulling, walking, sitting, stooping, bending, and repetitive movements
  • Must pass a random drug test at no cost after hiring; failure or refusal may result in termination

Qualifications

No high school diploma or GED required.

Pay

$14.60 per hour. Overtime paid at 1.5 times the regular rate for hours worked beyond 48 in a workweek.

Employer may provide additional compensation (e.g., bonuses, fixed salaries, PTO, insurance, incentive pay) or pay above the minimum rate based on lawful, non-discriminatory factors such as skill, performance, tenure, licensing, training, punctuality, or prior related experience.

Benefits

  • Work guaranteed for at least 3/4 of the contract period (09/15/2026 to 03/31/2027)
  • Free housing provided for workers whose residence is beyond normal commuting distance
  • Employer covers inbound transportation and subsistence costs to the work site upon 50% completion of the work contract for eligible workers
  • Daily subsistence reimbursement of at least $16.78 per day (up to $68.00 per day with receipts) during travel
  • Required work-related tools and supplies provided free of charge
  • Earned Sick and Safe Time (ESST): One hour of paid sick and safe time for every 30 hours worked, up to at least 48 hours per year (for employees working a minimum of 80 hours in a calendar year, per MN State Statute)
