About the role

We are looking for a dedicated and skilled Optometric professional to join our team. In this role, you will work directly with patients to provide vision care and support, ensuring they receive the highest quality of service and clinical expertise.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive eye and vision examinations under the direction of a licensed optometrist or ophthalmologist.
  • Assist in fitting and dispensing eyeglasses and contact lenses to patients.
  • Take patient histories and perform preliminary diagnostic tests before doctor consultations.
  • Educate patients on proper contact lens care, insertion, and removal.
  • Maintain accurate patient records and ensure all documentation is up to date.
  • Provide front-line customer service, addressing patient questions and scheduling appointments.
  • Sanitize and maintain all ophthalmic equipment and examination rooms.
  • Work with optical lab staff to ensure prescription accuracy and timely order fulfillment.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent; associate degree in ophthalmic technology or related field preferred.
  • Valid Optician or Ophthalmic Assistant certification in the state of practice.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in a clinical or retail optometric setting.
  • Strong understanding of optical terminology, lens types, and frame fitting techniques.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a patient-first attitude.
  • Ability to operate and troubleshoot manual and automated ophthalmic equipment.
  • Attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
  • Basic computer proficiency for electronic health records and scheduling software.

Qualifications

  • Certification from the American Board of Opticianry (ABO) or National Contact Lens Examiners (NCLE) strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle multiple tasks efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Problem-solving skills for addressing patient concerns and prescription adjustments.
  • Flexibility to work some evenings and weekends as required.

Skills

  • Expertise in lensometry, keratometry, and retinal imaging.
  • Proficiency in English; bilingual ability is a plus.
  • Empathy and patience when interacting with patients of all ages.
  • Basic math skills for calculating lens prescriptions and measurements.
