FamilySearch Writing and Communications Specialist
About the role
At FamilySearch, we believe in connecting families across generations and preserving their stories. This role involves crafting compelling content and messaging to engage a global audience, from family history enthusiasts to professionals and community leaders.
Responsibilities
- Shape messaging and tell the story of FamilySearch’s mission and brand.
- Create content for web, social media, email, blogs, PR, and campaigns that moves audiences from curiosity to connection.
- Collaborate with product and engagement teams to introduce newcomers to FamilySearch and support RootsTech initiatives.
- Guide the user experience through UX writing, ensuring the product experience aligns with the story that brought users in.
- Coordinate and manage projects from brief to publication, working with various teams including product marketing, channel management, and UX design.
- Ensure content is discoverable through practical SEO and AI/generative-engine-optimization principles.
Qualifications
- Several years of marketing/engagement copywriting and content experience across web, social, blog, email, paid ads, and campaigns.
- Candidates with nonprofit, agency, or advocacy backgrounds and cause-marketing experience are preferred.
- Copywriting skill, messaging strategy, business writing, global sensibility, project coordination, and superior written and verbal communication.
- A bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Fluency in Office 365 (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Teams, Outlook, OneNote).
- A commitment to writing to the Family History Department’s five Quality Standards and FamilySearch Brand Standards.
- Nice to have: hands-on experience with AI optimization, UX writing experience, practical on-page SEO skills, familiarity with search/content-optimization platforms, and experience with large language models and AI assistants.
