About the role
The Family Wellness Specialist ensures the overall health and nutrition needs of participating families are met in accordance with Head Start regulations. This position focuses on linking program participants to health and nutritional services through internal and external collaborative efforts, ensuring optimum health and nutritional status for each client.
Responsibilities
- Work with the Senior Family Wellness Coordinator and Child Nutrition Specialists to plan appropriate health and nutrition programming.
- Assist the Senior Family Wellness Coordinator with meeting all reporting responsibilities for Head Start requirements.
- Conduct internal monitoring of locations to ensure compliance with Head Start Performance Standards.
- Provide training to staff on Head Start Performance Standards policies, procedures, and processes to ensure contract compliance.
- Ensure appropriate health screenings are completed for all children enrolled in Early Head Start/Head Start.
- Maintain up-to-date records on immunizations, EPSDT, and other medical requirements through case management and binder reviews.
- Collaborate with Student Support Services to refer children for further evaluation of health concerns as needed.
- Work with Family Development Workers to link families with health and insurance resources in the community.
- Promote awareness of health-related issues to staff, children, and parents through materials distribution, training, nutrition activities, and counseling.
- Encourage parent and community involvement in the health program by including them in development, decision-making, and evaluation.
- Assist in preparing for federal monitoring of the Head Start Monitoring Protocol.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Travel between sites/campuses is required.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Nursing or a related field (preferred).
- First Aid and CPR certifications (preferred).
