About the role
The Oregon Department of Human Services is seeking a Family Time Coordinator to work in our John Day office, assisting Oregonians in person. John Day is in rural Eastern Oregon. This position supports families by ensuring they can spend quality time together, with each day presenting unique challenges and opportunities to make a meaningful difference.
Bilingual candidates (English & Spanish) are preferred and may qualify for a 5% bilingual differential pay increase after successfully passing a language proficiency test.
Responsibilities
- Ensure children's safety and well-being during visits and transport, addressing any issues and documenting outcomes.
- Provide transportation support for children and others associated with the case, supporting their emotional needs.
- Maintain accurate records, prepare court notes, provide feedback to service workers, and participate in meetings and conferences.
- Implement and manage individual visitation agreements and safety plans by coordinating with case workers, clients, and caregivers.
- Plan visit schedules, locations, supervision levels, and safety measures using information from various sources.
- Review and explain visitation agreements and guidelines to clients, family members, and caregivers.
- Communicate visitation expectations and respond to post-visit inquiries from caregivers and family members.
- Work with challenging and sometimes hostile clients in sensitive situations involving trauma, abuse, substance use, and crisis scenarios.
Requirements
- A valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
- One of the following:
- One year of experience working in a human services or behavioral health setting; or
- An associate degree in any field; or
- An equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Ability to perform physical tasks including climbing stairs, walking on uneven terrain, assisting children into and out of car seats, and lifting up to 50 pounds.
Skills
- Strong organizational skills, prioritization, and time management to meet deadlines.
- Proficiency with various computer systems or databases, including Microsoft 365 programs.
- Attention to detail in completing tasks.
- Ability to evaluate information to make informed decisions and guide actions.
- Demonstrated ability to work well with people from diverse backgrounds.
- Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, including articulating observations.
Working Conditions
- In-person position based in John Day, Oregon, with work conducted in the office, participants' homes, and other community sites.
- Occasional travel required for meetings, trainings, and case-related activities, including in hazardous weather conditions.
- Professional workweek: Monday–Friday, 8 AM–5 PM, with potential fluctuations based on service needs.
- Occasional compensated overtime, including evenings and weekends.
- Exposure to sensitive material related to trauma, abuse, substance use, and crisis situations; trauma-informed approach prioritized.
Background Checks
- Criminal history and background check required for finalists; adverse results may lead to disqualification.
- Must complete the US Department of Homeland Security’s I-9 form within three days of hire to confirm work authorization (E-Verify used).
- FBI Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) fingerprint-based criminal records check required for finalists.

$4,124 – $5,714 per month
