Location: Towson, Maryland

Starting rate of pay: $18.00 per hour (non-negotiable). Bilingual (Spanish/English) position with an additional bilingual pay differential for employees who meet proficiency requirements.

About the role

The Family Support Specialist works directly with families to provide in-home and virtual family-centered, strength-based services designed to strengthen parent-child relationships, enhance parenting skills and improve family functioning as part of the Healthy Families program—a national initiative that works with new parents to develop supportive, enriching parenting practices.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate program enrollment, including assessments to evaluate family history of past and present trauma and areas that are under-resourced.
  • Provide family-centered, strength-based interventions directed at establishing a trusting relationship in order to optimize parent-child relationships.
  • Connect families to community resources through referrals and education.
  • Utilize a research-based curriculum to facilitate age-appropriate interaction between parent and child.
  • Guide families through the steps of setting and working towards goals.
  • Plan and participate in Healthy Families special events.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Family and Children’s Services or related field (three years of home visitation or experience working with families accepted in lieu of degree).
  • Experience with family services that embrace family-centered principles and strength-based service provision.
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English (required).
  • Experience serving culturally diverse communities/families (required).
  • Transportation necessary to fulfill the duties and responsibilities of the position.
