Family Specialist
About the role
Devereux Florida provides Family Preservation and Child Welfare case management services for children and families referred by the Department of Children and Families, to ensure a community without abuse, neglect or abandonment. Based out of Deland and providing coverage throughout Volusia, Flagler, and Putnam Counties, this position is responsible for helping families with resources and preventing children from entering the foster care system. The role works closely with DCF to develop a family preservation plan, engages families via family team meetings, determines needs and implements resources, coordinates with support staff for referrals and follow‑ups, and maintains close contact with the assigned DCF investigator to provide updates on family progress throughout participation in the Family Builders Program.
Location: Deland, FL (serving Volusia, Flagler, and Putnam Counties).
Responsibilities
- Help families access resources to prevent children from entering foster care.
- Collaborate with DCF to develop family preservation plans.
- Engage families through family team meetings.
- Assess family needs and implement appropriate resources.
- Coordinate with support staff to complete referrals to external providers and conduct follow‑ups.
- Maintain regular contact with the assigned DCF investigator to report on family progress.
Requirements
- Complete a 3‑day new hire orientation via MS Teams (approximately 9:00 am–5:00 pm each day).
- Hold a valid Florida driver’s license.
- Pass pre‑employment medical screenings (drug test and TB test).
- Pass a Level 2 background screening with the State of Florida.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a social services‑related field.
- Three years of experience providing direct services to at‑risk children and families.

Pay
Starting hourly rate: $20.25 – $23.08 (based on education and relevant experience). Eligible for up to a $2,000 sign‑on bonus.
Schedule
Full‑time position with a flexible schedule to accommodate family needs; not a traditional 9‑5 role.
