Family Services Assistant

About the role

Provides community outreach, family assessments, and connects families to Head Start, Early Head Start, and other support services. Develops trusting relationships with families, promotes parent involvement, and encourages cultural and linguistic inclusivity. Manages caseloads, conducts health screenings, and facilitates referrals for health, developmental, and social services. Supports family well-being through the Family Partnership process, monitors attendance, and maintains accurate data records. Participates in team meetings, training, and transition planning, ensuring compliance with program standards and safety regulations.

Responsibilities

• Recruit eligible children and maintain enrollment.
• Conduct family assessments and facilitate service referrals.
• Engage families in goal setting and resource planning.
• Coordinate health screenings and follow-ups.
• Monitor attendance and ensure program compliance.
• Participate in team meetings, trainings, and transition activities.
• Maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical standards.

Requirements

• Ability to lift up to 25 pounds, perform screenings, and meet health and safety standards, including background checks and immunizations.

Qualifications

• Associate degree or Family Development Credential (FDC) and high school diploma.
• At least one year of experience assisting economically disadvantaged families in social service or parent involvement settings.
• Knowledge of Head Start standards, family engagement frameworks, and community health and social services.
• Valid California driver’s license, reliable transportation, and clearance for working with children and families.

Skills

• Strong communication, cultural sensitivity, confidentiality, and ability to work with diverse populations.
• Bi-lingual skills preferred.
