About the Role

Greenwood Medical Clinic in Greenwood and Boundary Hospital in Grand Forks are seeking a rural family physician to join a shared practice with two other young physicians in a well-run, low-overhead clinic supported by Primary Care Network (PCN) staff, including a Social Worker and a Registered Nurse.

The practice offers flexibility in terms of office versus ER work. It can accommodate 1-3 weekdays in-office (including virtual consults) and 3-6 monthly 24-hour (or 12-hour equivalent) ER shifts at Boundary District Hospital, in addition to inpatient and long-term care responsibilities.

The current Greenwood Clinic physicians are looking for a partner to provide cross-coverage and vacation coverage for both office and hospital work, eliminating the need to arrange locum support.

Primary Care Network Opportunity

The Kootenay Boundary (KB) region is an early adopter of the Primary Care Network (PCN) approach. Teams of family physicians, nurse practitioners, registered nurses, allied health professionals, Aboriginal Health Coordinators, and other clinical staff collaborate to improve patient attachment, access, and cultural safety across clinics in the region.

To date, over 30 PCN staff have been hired, providing approximately 5,000 patient encounters per quarter, with additional hiring underway. The KB PCN operates on a co-location model, embedding teams within existing primary care clinics. A learning culture, fostered through the KB PCN Learning Lab, encourages innovation, collective learning, and the sharing of successes among all PCN partners.

Greenwood, a thriving city with roots in the late 1800s and early 1900s mining era, retains its historic charm with over 60 heritage buildings. The Boundary region offers abundant outdoor recreation opportunities, including lakes, rivers, parks, cycling, skiing, and camping, alongside a vibrant restaurant and retail sector. The area also features fascinating Japanese history, highlighted in the local museum.

Physicians working in Greenwood can reside in the Boundary or West Boundary regions, where a variety of homes and acreages are available for purchase, from Christina Lake to Rock Creek, with Grand Forks as the largest centre.

Compensation and Benefits

Compensation Type: Combination (Fee-for-Service and Longitudinal Family Practice model)

Estimated Remuneration: $500,000

Physician Overhead: To be determined (flat monthly fee or percentage share of clinic overhead costs)

• May be eligible for additional remuneration under the Rural Subsidiary Agreement (RSA), including:
  • Retention Premium: 20.58%
  • Retention Flat Fee: $31,893
  • Relocation Funding: $9,000 - $15,000 (based on move location)
  • Recruitment Incentive: $20,000
• Rural Continuing Medical Education (RCME) support up to $5,720 over 4 years
• 50% reimbursement of CMPA out-of-pocket costs for eligible rural physicians
• Rural incentives are subject to change; current rates confirmed at the time of offer
• Candidates with a BC or Canada student loan may qualify for loan forgiveness programs
