Position Summary

The Family Practice Physician participates in the multi-disciplinary process of providing care and treatment to patients. They provide comprehensive medical services, including diagnosis, treatment, coordination of care, preventive care, and health maintenance.

Essential Roles & Responsibilities

  • Provides comprehensive medical services to patients across the life course presenting for care at UFHC, on a continuing basis.
  • Examines patients, using medical instruments and equipment.
  • Obtains complete medical history and physical data on patients; establishes accurate diagnosis.
  • Performs clinical services to patients who present with illness or disease, including minor procedures.
  • Orders or executes various tests and diagnostic images to provide information on patient’s condition.
  • Reviews incoming reports (e.g. lab, xray, EKG) and signs, dates, and follows up in a timely manner.
  • Inoculates and vaccinates patients to immunize patients from communicable diseases.
  • Administers or prescribes treatments and medications, and instructs patients on proper utilization.
  • Refers patients to medical specialists for consultant services when necessary for patient’s wellbeing.
  • Adheres to established clinical protocols and procedures.
  • Maintains adequate and legible patient medical records in the established chart.
  • Serves as a resource for clinical supervision (e.g. client oversight, case consultation, productivity reports, quality assurance).
  • Supports medical services provided by the agency.

Education & Experience Requirements

  • Graduate of approved medical school with Board Certification.
  • Unencumbered New York State License to practice medicine.
  • At least 3 years proven successful experience as a practicing clinician.
  • Eligible to obtain and maintain a federal and state narcotic registration (DEA License).
  • Strong community health/public health orientation, experienced in patient care management, and demonstrates managed health care knowledge and experience.
  • Diagnoses and patient visit coding experience.
  • Knowledge of or experience with healthcare information systems, such as electronic health record and practice management systems experience; EClinical Works preferred.
  • Experience in a multiple provider medical practice.
  • Strong commitment health professions ethics including principles of social justice, empowerment, and self-determination of individuals.
  • Intermediate PC skills (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook, SharePoint, Office 365).
