Family Engagement Specialist

Position exists in accordance with new ESSA guidelines, to function as part of the network of assistance for students and families in Title I schools within the Harrisburg School District. At the direction of the supervisor, coordinates communication and activities in the assigned Title I school among the teachers, parents, community, and school administrators.

Responsibilities

  • Works collaboratively with school to secure and disseminate information to families regarding current events and engagement opportunities.
  • Works collectively with other district feeder schools and Family Engagement Specialist to assist families with transition services to kindergarten, middle school, and high school.
  • Provides families with information and resources regarding Professional Development opportunities and Parent Classes.
  • Assists the building Principal in the maintenance of the school's Title I Binder.
  • Plans and provides activities related to family involvement that would enhance the school's climate.
  • Works collaboratively with administrators to implement the Family Involvement Program according to state and federal guidelines.
  • Works collaboratively with staff and community agencies to support the needs of families and children in PreK-12th grade.
  • Works with parents and teachers in improving the achievement level of students via family involvement.
  • Assists families in identifying community resources in the areas of housing, health, public assistance, hunger, and parenting.
  • Plans and conducts monthly Parent workshops and implements parent activities based on results of Family Interest Surveys.
  • Assists with the annual development and implementation of the school and LEA Parent and Family Engagement Policy.
  • Works with the building Principal and Federal Programs Office to develop a Parent Advisory Board comprised of a sufficient number and representative group of parents or family members to adequately represent the needs of the population; revising and reviewing the Parent and Family Engagement Policy (ESSA, Section 1116(a)(2)(F)).
  • Required attendance at monthly professional development meetings and training opportunities.
  • Provides monthly reports to the Federal Programs Department.
  • Maintains confidentiality of information at all times.
  • Works collaboratively with the School Leadership Team to plan and implement school-wide parent and community functions.
  • Works collaboratively with the building PTA/PTO president.
  • Serves as liaison between the District and families of Pre-K students.
  • Serves as liaison between schools and community and parent resources for schools.

Requirements

  • Minimum of a High School Diploma or GED.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in a related field required.
  • Associates Degree in a related field highly preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Bilingual – English/Spanish preferred but not required.
  • Ability to lift up to twenty pounds without assistance, multiple times during the course of the work day.
  • Ability to perform essential job functions including repeated standing, sitting, walking, grasping, bending, and reaching.
  • Satisfactory work record with regards to dependability, attendance, cooperation, attitude, and other related duties as assigned by the Principal and Federal Programs Administrator or appropriate administrator.
  • Child Abuse, PA State Criminal History, and FBI Fingerprint Clearances as required by PA School Code at time of hire.

Pay

$19.11 per hour

Schedule

8.0 hours a day / 260 days a year
