Family Engagement Coordinator
Position Summary
The Family Engagement Coordinator leads family engagement initiatives within the After School Program and during school hours. This role focuses on building strong family-school partnerships, with a particular emphasis on strategies that support African American student achievement and a sense of belonging. The Coordinator collaborates with both school-day and after-school leadership teams, facilitates family-focused programming and events, supports the African American Parent Council, and connects families with community resources. This position also contributes to broader YMCA events such as Healthy Kids Day and the Annual Campaign.
Job Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain positive, culturally responsive relationships with students, parents, and families.
- Design and lead monthly family workshops, community events, and on-site engagement opportunities.
- Facilitate ongoing communication with parents/guardians about student progress and program updates.
- Serve as a liaison between the school, afterschool program, and African American Parent Council.
- Respond promptly and professionally to family concerns; escalate issues as needed.
- Conduct needs assessments, surveys, and evaluations to guide engagement efforts.
- Support YMCA-wide family engagement initiatives and events.
- Establish strong, collaborative relationships with school administrators, teachers, support staff, and community partners.
- Meet regularly with school leadership and YMCA site staff to align program goals, outreach, and evaluation.
- Promote inclusive participation across programs and actively recruit new participants.
- Provide orientation for families and maintain consistent communication throughout the program year.
- Attend required meetings and trainings to ensure program quality and alignment with YMCA goals.
- Support a culture of equity, inclusion, and continuous improvement.
- Assist in the design and implementation of tools to measure program impact and student/family engagement.
- Maintain accurate records for reporting, evaluation, and compliance purposes.
- Help shape program design based on feedback from stakeholders, students, and families.

Work Environment & Physical Demands
- This position primarily operates in a school and recreational setting.
- Requires the ability to remain in a stationary position for extended periods, move about school or event environments, and communicate effectively with diverse individuals.
- Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally for event setup or activity materials.
- Evening and occasional weekend hours required for family and YMCA-wide events.

Salary Description
The hourly rate for this position is $22.00 - $30.00 per hour, based on experience, qualifications, and alignment with salary benchmarks for similar roles. Compensation is in accordance with grant funding approval and program budget requirements.
