About the role

The Family Center Intern plays a crucial role in delivering excellent services to members, guests, and program participants at the Y in Central Maryland. They provide a safe, engaging, and nurturing environment for children, guiding activities and ensuring a positive interaction.

Responsibilities

  • Highly engage program participants through the direct supervision of children in various programs such as Sports, Fun Days, Stay and Play, and Parent’s Night Out.
  • Maintain a clean and safe environment at all times.
  • Engage youth by guiding activities and monitoring their actions while at play.
  • Follow the activity curriculum and/or guidance for the program being delivered.
  • Interact with children in a positive, caring, and respectful manner.
  • Maintain all necessary paperwork including sign-in/out processes, behavior reports, and incident reports.
  • Assist in administrative tasks such as program roster management, flyer development, parent correspondence, and calendar development and distribution.
  • Work with a diverse population, all ages, genders, and sexual orientations.
  • Incorporate the four character values of the YMCA: Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility, and adhere to the YCM Code of Conduct.
  • Avoid inappropriate physical or verbal interactions with children.
  • Comply with the YCM Code of Conduct with Youth and report any suspected mistreatment.

Requirements

Essential functions include providing excellent services to members, guests, and program participants, maintaining a safe and engaging environment, and following the activity curriculum and guidance.

Qualifications

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Experience working with children and a passion for youth development.
  • Positive attitude and ability to handle challenging situations.
  • Basic computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office.
