Family and Consumer Science Associate Teacher - Long Term Substitute

Location: Fairport, NY 14450
Term: Long-term substitute
Start date: September 2026
Pay: $21.73 – $34.01 per hour (actual salary depends on education, experience, and contract)

Responsibilities

• Assist teachers in providing instruction and supervision to high school students with disabilities in the Consumer and Family Science program
• Work cooperatively with the Consumer and Family Science teacher and support staff to support student needs
• Assist the teacher with implementing students’ Individualized Education Program (IEP)
• Maintain student records such as attendance
• Other duties as determined by the classroom teacher or program administrator

Requirements

• Valid NYS Teaching Assistant Certificate or NYS Teacher Certificate required (or willingness to obtain; see certification requirements)
• Experience working with students with behavioral/emotional disabilities and developmental disabilities preferred
• Experience or coursework in Human Services and Family Studies, Food and Nutrition, Textiles and Design, or Consumer Skills, Resource Management and Career Studies preferred
• Training in individual and classroom management systems preferred
• Training in Life Space Interventions, SCIP-R, TCI, CPI, or similar systems preferred
• Physically able to perform essential functions of the position (with or without reasonable accommodation), including:
  • Using approved physical intervention techniques when necessary
  • Lifting and/or carrying
  • Standing, stooping, bending, crouching, squatting, kneeling, and/or reaching
  • Walking, running, and/or escorting students in multiple settings
