Family Advocate (Bilingual Spanish)
About the role
Acelero Learning is seeking a Family Advocate to engage Head Start families in partnering to promote children’s healthy development and school readiness. The role focuses on supporting families as their child’s primary educator, encouraging parent/child interactions that foster school readiness, and enhancing family well-being. The Family Advocate will provide targeted support to vulnerable families and those with children who have chronic health conditions or special needs, ensuring engagement strategies meet their unique needs. The position also aims to build a sense of community among families to strengthen relationships and shared aspirations.
Responsibilities
- Engage families in individualized, in-home, and group experiences to enhance parent/child interactions that foster school readiness through family routines, positive guidance, literacy activities, and experience-rich home environments.
- Manage core functions including ERSEA (Eligibility, Recruitment, Selection, Enrollment, and Attendance), record keeping, reporting, ongoing monitoring, planning, and implementation.
- Establish and maintain a safe, healthy learning environment, support children’s well-being, and encourage family involvement in the Head Start program.
- Participate in outreach, recruitment, and attendance follow-up activities to engage families and motivate active participation.
- Assist families in completing applications, collecting missing documents, and gathering health-related information.
- Maintain funded enrollment levels, work with the FSC/ERSEA Lead to fill vacancies, and analyze enrollment data to inform planning.
- Create attendance goals for families with attendance below 80%.
- Complete data entry related to responsibilities.
- Build and maintain relationships with community partners to strengthen access to resources and training identified as priority goal areas by families.
- Participate in assigned meetings, events, and training as required.
Requirements
- Associate or Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work, Human Services, Family Services, Counseling, or a related field preferred. Alternatively, an AA or BA in another field with a commitment to complete a Family Services Certificate/Credential within 18 months of hire.
- Experience, training, and skill in assisting parents of young children to advocate for their families; experience working in low-income diverse communities preferred.
- Physical exam and background checks required.
- Travel required locally or long-distance up to 10% of the time for work-related meetings and functions.
- Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable personal transportation for travel between sites.
Pay
This position pays between $19.49 and $23.33 hourly, based on education and years of experience.
