Where do I fit in?

UBC Steel Bridge is a community of passionate and talented UBC students working together to build award-winning model steel bridges for international competition. Opportunities are available to students from all faculties across UBC. There is a role for anyone in Steel Bridge, fitting into groups called subteams.

If you’re unsure of which subteam aligns best with your interests, that’s okay! UBC Steel Bridge is proud of its supportive learning environment for individuals with diverse interests and backgrounds.

Info Session

Captains and subteam leads will be holding an in-person info session on Wednesday, September 3, 1:00 PM in CEME 1203. Come by, introduce yourself, and learn more about what our team has to offer!

Drafting

The Drafting subteam uses Autodesk Inventor and AutoCAD to create precise models and engineering drawings that comply with competition standards, reflecting industry practices.

Video/BIM

BIM stands for Building Information Modelling, and this subteam creates unique video projects that showcase the team and the various features of our bridge, combining cinematography and BIM software.

Fabrication

The Fabrication subteam prepares the steel parts of the bridge. They coordinate the procurement of materials, fabricate parts and assemblies to specification, and contact industry professionals for tasks beyond their capabilities.

Marketing

Marketing is more than just selling a product; it highlights the impact and potential of UBC Steel Bridge through inspiring visuals, campaigns, events, social media outreach, and more.

Sponsorship

Building a steel bridge and participating in international competitions requires resources and funding. As a student-run team, we rely on the goodwill of sponsors who believe in our capabilities and are willing to invest in our future. The Sponsorship subteam represents Steel Bridge when directly contacting companies about the benefits of sponsoring us.
