About the role
The Music Department at Whitman College is seeking a one-year Faculty Fellow position in Jazz Studies, starting August 2026. This position involves teaching 60% of a regular load, directing the premiere ensemble in the award-winning jazz program, and teaching an academic course within the candidate's area of expertise in jazz studies.
Responsibilities
- Teach 60% of a regular load, allowing for reflective teaching and sustained engagement with scholarship or creative work.
- Direct the premiere ensemble in the award-winning jazz program.
- Teach an academic course within your area of expertise in jazz studies.
- Receive substantial research travel support and mentoring that fosters growth in the classroom and in your scholarly/creative field.
Requirements
- Completion of a terminal degree before starting the position is preferred.
- Interest in teaching undergraduates, majors as well as non-majors, at all levels of instruction.
