Faculty Fellow - Music (Jazz Studies)

About the role

The Music Department at Whitman College is seeking a one-year Faculty Fellow position in Jazz Studies, starting August 2026. This position involves teaching 60% of a regular load, directing the premiere ensemble in the award-winning jazz program, and teaching an academic course within the candidate's area of expertise in jazz studies.

Responsibilities

• Teach 60% of a regular load, allowing for reflective teaching and sustained engagement with scholarship or creative work.
• Direct the premiere ensemble in the award-winning jazz program.
• Teach an academic course within your area of expertise in jazz studies.
• Receive substantial research travel support and mentoring that fosters growth in the classroom and in your scholarly/creative field.

Requirements

• Completion of a terminal degree before starting the position is preferred.
• Interest in teaching undergraduates, majors as well as non-majors, at all levels of instruction.
