About the role

Faculty Associate positions are one semester, non-benefits-eligible, fixed-term appointments with no tenure implications, not to exceed an average of .40 FTE per semester. The number of courses is contingent upon unit needs, funding, and sufficient enrollment. Salary is based upon qualifications and assigned teaching load.

Essential Functions of the Position

  • Teach NEW 101 The New College Experience to first-year undergraduate students within the New College of Interdisciplinary Arts and Sciences.
  • Teach lower-division courses to undergraduate students, in face-to-face, hybrid, or online formats.
  • Prepare syllabus, lectures, class materials, grade assignments, and exams.
  • Maintain regular availability to students, including office hours as appropriate to course modality.
  • Monitor student success and regularly respond to student academic issues.

Qualifications Required

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related field, at the time of appointment.
  • Knowledge of the Canvas Learning Management system or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated commitment to working successfully with students from a wide variety of socio-economic and cultural backgrounds, including first-generation college students.
  • Experience teaching first-year and/or at-risk college students.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Evidence of teaching or one year of experience in student support services at a post-secondary institution.
  • Evidence of excellent teaching/student support ability.
  • Excellent English written and spoken communication skills.
  • Evidence of teaching excellence e.g., student evaluations, syllabi, peer observation, annual evaluations, etc.
