Faculty Associate in Media Arts – The GAME School
About the Role
Faculty Associates at The GAME School on the Tempe campus of Arizona State University teach undergraduate and/or graduate courses in one or more of the following areas: game engine or media arts programming, visual scripting in game engines, Python programming for media arts, game physics and mathematics, game design and production fundamentals, and audio-visual technologies.
These are one-semester, part-time, non-benefits-eligible appointments with no tenure implications. A typical course load is one to two classes per semester. The number of courses is contingent upon needs, funding, and sufficient enrollment. Individuals hired may not hold multiple non-benefits-eligible appointments at Arizona State University. Anticipated start date is Fall 2026 or Spring 2027 (sessions A, B, and/or C).
Responsibilities
- Teach in-person or online courses in assigned subject areas.
- Prepare course materials, including lectures, readings, discussions, and other teaching activities aligned with the approved syllabus and academic standards.
- Evaluate student work and provide timely, constructive feedback on assignments and assessments.
- Assist students through weekly office hours (for on-campus classes) or electronically (for online classes).
- Maintain instructor presence and communicate effectively with students, staff, and faculty.
- Keep accurate course records in compliance with university policies.
- Foster an inclusive and engaging learning environment to support student success.
- Adhere to ASU, Herberger Institute for the Design and the Arts, and The GAME School policies and procedures.
- Collaborate professionally with colleagues and continuously improve instructional skills while staying informed about developments in the field.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field and 4 years of industry experience for undergraduate courses, or Master’s degree in a relevant field and 2 years of industry experience for graduate courses.
- Evidence of effective teaching.
Qualifications (Preferred)
- MFA or Ph.D. in a relevant field by the time of appointment.
- Record of scholarly publication and/or evidence of professional development in the relevant field.
- Minimum of two years of post-secondary teaching experience.
Working Environment
- Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled classroom setting, often requiring extended periods of standing, lecturing, and facilitating classroom activities.
- Frequent standing for varying lengths of time and walking moderate distances to perform work.
- Occasional bending, reaching, lifting, pushing, and pulling up to 25 pounds.
- Occasional need to quickly change priorities, which may include resolving conflicts.
- Clear communication to perform essential functions.
- Regular use of standard office equipment, including computer workstation/laptop (keyboard, monitor, mouse), printer, copier, telephone, and associated peripherals.
