Film Faculty Associate
About the role
The Sidney Poitier New American Film School at Arizona State University invites applications for Faculty Associates to teach undergraduate film courses online, in-person at the Media and Immersive Experience (MIX) Center in downtown Mesa, and at the ASU California Center in Los Angeles in the Fall 2026 and Spring 2027.
Responsibilities
- Teach in-person or online courses
- Prepare course materials
- Evaluate student work
- Absent availability for one-on-one assistance (via weekly office hours for on-campus classes and electronically for online classes)
- Utilize ASU Canvas for each course
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field and 4 years of professional industry experience; or a Master’s degree in relevant field and 2 years of professional industry experience; or a Ph.D. in a relevant field with related experience, and/or any combination of education and experience, by time of appointment.
- M.F.A or Ph.D. in relevant field by time of appointment
- Experience in general film production; field sound production; visual effects; creative producing; cinematography; directing; post production; relevant to each course
- Record of scholarly publication and/or evidence of professional productions
- Ability to teach film theory in relation to film production practices
- Evidence of effective teaching
- Minimum of two years of post-secondary teaching experience

Pay
$1,500 per credit
Schedule
One semester appointments, part time, non-benefits eligible with no tenure implications. A typical Faculty Associate course load is one-to-two classes per semester. Teaching duties include: preparing course materials, responding to and evaluating student work, and utilizing ASU Canvas for each course.
