Factory Quality Engineer - 2nd shift
U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance. An active and transferable U.S. government-issued Secret security clearance is required prior to start date; ability to obtain an interim clearance is also required.
About the role
RTX (Raytheon Technologies) is seeking an experienced Factory Quality Engineer to join the Effectors Operations Quality team in Tucson, AZ. This onsite, 2nd-shift position supports a fast-paced, multi-value-stream factory in a dynamic and challenging environment. The role is critical to ensuring quality execution and overall success in aerospace and defense manufacturing.
Responsibilities
- Verify product and process compliance with contractual, technical, industry, AS9100 Quality Management System (QMS) requirements, and internal policies.
- Develop strong working relationships with touch labor, factory leadership, program leadership, and DCMA.
- Perform regular data analysis, develop actionable metrics, and generate/publish Cost of Poor Quality (COPQ) metrics.
- Facilitate and lead cross-functional teams in failure analysis, Root Cause and Corrective Action (RCCA) investigations, including identifying non-conformances, providing solutions, tracking issues to closure, and leading Corrective Action Boards (CAB).
- Ensure identification, physical control, and disposition of non-conforming material; facilitate Material Review Board (MRB) when necessary.
- Support work instruction development and maintenance by reviewing work instructions, test instructions, auditing processes, and ensuring configuration management.
- Develop and maintain inspection instructions, ensuring they meet technical data package requirements and production needs.
- Develop and release First Article Inspections (FAIs) in accordance with AS9102.
- Regularly interface with the Defense Contract Management Agency (DCMA) and internal stakeholders to manage issues.
- Conduct weekly meetings to reduce cost of poor quality and facilitate timely red rack dispositions.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) with two years of relevant experience in Quality, Operations, Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
- Experience interpreting engineering drawings, work instructions, and/or manufacturing process experience in assembly, inspection, and/or test.
- Experience with AS9100 and/or ISO 9001 quality management systems.
- Ability to obtain and maintain an ATF (Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives) clearance prior to the start date.
Preferred Qualifications
- Competency and experience in a relevant technical discipline with understanding of engineering principles and design analysis techniques.
- Experience leading cross-functional teams in auditing processes and product/process improvements in the factory or at suppliers.
- Experience with Product/Process Failure Modes & Effects Analysis and Regression Analysis.
- Experience with AS9102 First Article Inspection Requirements.
- Experience with Bill of Materials (BOMs) and consumable materials control.
- Experience with AS9145 - Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) and Production Part Approval Process (PPAP).
- High computer proficiency, including skills working with Microsoft Tools (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Visio).
- ASQ Certifications.
Pay
The salary range for this role is $68,900 – $131,100 USD. An 8% shift differential is offered on top of base salary. A sign-on bonus is available for eligible candidates.
Schedule
This is a 2nd-shift, onsite position in Tucson, AZ. The team works a 9/80 schedule (every other Friday off).
