About the role

This position is accountable for delivering on Intermountain's vision of extraordinary care by leading, directing, overseeing, and achieving the goals and strategic initiatives of the Design and Construction department. Supports the system facility planning, design, and construction program as approved through the capital budget process and as directed by the Assistant Vice President (AVP) of Design and Construction.

Responsibilities

  • Provides leadership and direction to the strategic facility master planning and programming of major/strategic capital projects.
  • Creates, monitors, improves, and teaches a consistent project development process throughout the Intermountain system as assigned.
  • Aids in the creation and project cost estimating and scheduling related to each annual five-year capital plan and updates and works with Finance to develop the five-year capital plan.
  • Demonstrates a working knowledge of and applies the current version of International Building Codes (e.g., IBC, IFC, IMC, IPC, etc.), Life Safety Codes, specific State Department of Health Regulations, National Fire Protection Agency (NFPA), FM Global Regulations, and similar regulatory requirements as applied to all assigned major/strategic projects.
  • Collaborates with Senior Director, Facility Planning – Standards and Controls, Systems and Controls Director, as well as the Design Standards Manager on the development, maintenance, and implementation of system design standards and other initiatives as required.
  • Works closely with Operations leadership and Strategy to ensure thoughtful strategic facility master plans and strategies and ensures maximum utility and flexibility.
  • Manages major/strategic construction projects, as necessary. Manages assigned project scopes, schedule, and budgets.
  • Manages customers, stakeholders, and vendor relationships and expectations.
  • Executes on Talent Management including such things as staffing, engagement, and performance review.
  • Manages caregivers and external consultants/vendors effectively and oversees their responsibilities and duties on assigned projects.
  • Prepares the operational budget for respective team and coordinates with AVP of Design and Construction on approvals.
  • Utilizes the One Intermountain Operating Model (IOM) to identify areas of opportunity, such as standardization of work processes and quality improvement. Uses benchmarking data to identify gaps and deploys continuous improvement efforts.
  • Participates in various system teams representing construction project initiatives.

    Requirements

    • Bachelor's Degree of Architecture, Engineering or Healthcare Administration from an accredited school of architecture or engineering or academic institution.
    • Seven years professional experience as a licensed Architect or Engineer or Healthcare Administration or Health Strategy.
    • Five years’ experience managing multiple strategy, planning, design, construction or related projects.
    • Three years’ experience in a leadership role requiring the demonstration of organizational team building and empowerment skills and demonstrated ability to lead other project managers and projects from inception to completion.
    • Must have a working knowledge of medical facility programming and design along with advanced concepts of construction administration and contracting.
    • Must understand and interpret Construction Scheduling, Contracts/Contracting, Building Codes, Contract Documents, Construction Process Documents, Engineering Reports, Vendor Products, and Building Standards.
    • Experience using Project Management Information Systems, AutoCAD, PDF editors, word processing, spreadsheet, database, internet and e-mail and scheduling applications.
    • Experience in a role requiring effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communications.

    • Experience in compliance programs relating to professional standards that include local, state, and federal agencies, and accreditation organizations.

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor's Degree of Architecture, Engineering or Healthcare Administration from an accredited school of architecture or engineering or academic institution.
    • Education is verified.
    • Licensed as a professional Architect or Engineer in the state of practice.
    • A Certificate from the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards.
    • Work experience in a health care related field preferred.

For roles requiring driving: Expected to drive a vehicle which requires sitting, seeing and reading signs, traffic signals, and other vehicles. With this position, you are eligible to participate in the Annual Pay for Performance (AP4P) Plan. This plan enables Intermountain Health to provide leaders with an additional performance compensation opportunity. The AP4P award opportunities are calculated as a percentage of your base salary. Awards are paid out based on attainment of selected Board-approved goals.

    Pay and Schedule

    The hourly range for this position is listed below. Actual hourly rate dependent upon experience. $68.42 - $105.62
