Facility Operations Assistant 1 (Utilities)

Required Qualifications

• Physically able to perform medium to heavy physical labor, including bending, lifting, stretching, climbing ladders, and working in small spaces.
• No education or experience qualifications.
• Must be physically able to perform the tasks of the position and understand and carry out written or oral instructions.
• Absolutely must have, keep, and maintain the appropriate valid NYS Driver’s License.
• Motor vehicle record must be free from major violations or a pattern of repeat violations.

Description of Duties

• Cleans and wipes down equipment in the power plant.
• Assists in the overhauling and repairing of boilers, chillers, and other plant equipment.
• Assists repair crew and watch personnel with the operation of plant equipment.
• Performs specific tasks as directed by Plant Utilities Engineers and Plant Utilities Assistants to perform maintenance repairs on mechanical and electrical equipment, steam and water lines, and other equipment.
• Uses hand and power tools.
• Follows directions from senior personnel and works well with peers and subordinates.
• Wears all personal protective equipment issued.
• Works in confined spaces.
• Lubricates machinery in boiler, chiller, pump, and mechanical equipment rooms according to schedule.
• Participates in in-service training courses in the fundamentals of plant engineering and related courses.
• Operates heating, ventilating, and air conditioning equipment to learn operating procedures.
• May perform some tasks described for Plant Utilities Assistants under direction while learning and perfecting skills.

Special Notes

• This is a full-time position, 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
• FLSA Nonexempt position, eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA.
• Internal and external search to occur simultaneously.
• Mandatory rehire roster candidates have preference.
• Hiring Rate: $36,232.
• Location Pay: $4,000 per year.
• The selected candidate must successfully clear a background investigation.
• For this position, we are unable to sponsor candidates for work visas.
• Seniority for promotion is the length of service in the Operational Services Bargaining Unit.
• Essential Position: Designated as such based on the duties of the job and the functions performed.
