About the role
Facility Operations Assistants perform routine manual labor supporting common maintenance and service-type activities. Duties may include cleaning grounds, roadways, and structures by sweeping, raking, shoveling, mowing grass, and removing debris, leaves, branches, snow, ice, and trash. Additional tasks may involve removing trash and recyclables, cleaning drainage ditches, weeding, pouring concrete, digging trenches, resurfacing roadways, and spreading paving materials.
Responsibilities
- Assist skilled and semiskilled trades positions in carpentry, plumbing, painting, and electrical duties such as snow removal, unplugging clogged drains, changing light bulbs, and window washing.
- Use hand and portable power tools, shop equipment, and measuring and testing instruments appropriate to the assigned trade area.
- Occasionally operate trucks and light construction equipment, including involvement in snow removal.
- Load and unload trucks of items such as crates, machinery, furniture, equipment, and heavy stores by physically lifting or using hand trucks, forklifts, or similar equipment.
- Develop computer skills to operate the Department’s facilities management system (MAXIMO) and time management system (KRONOS) as implemented in the assigned area.
Minimum Qualifications
- No education or experience requirements for this class.
- Applicants must be physically able to perform moderate to heavy labor.
- When required to operate motor vehicles, candidates must be licensed to operate a motor vehicle in New York State and possess the license classification appropriate for the type of vehicle operated.
- Ability to understand and carry out written and oral instructions.
- Ability to use a variety of hand and power tools and motorized equipment.
- Ability to perform moderate to heavy manual labor.
- Ability to lift, stoop, and bend for long periods of time.
Schedule
The initial assignment for this position is in the Paint Shop from Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with Saturday and Sunday as pass days.
