Facility Manager (Part Time)

About the role

The Children’s Museum of Oak Ridge is seeking a reliable, hands-on Facility Manager to help keep our building and grounds safe, clean, and welcoming for the families we serve. This part-time position (20–25 hours/week) is ideal for someone who enjoys problem-solving, working independently, and taking pride in maintaining a community-serving facility. Our building is an original Manhattan Project–era school, so experience with older structures is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine maintenance and repairs
• Supervise two part-time janitors
• Coordinate vendors and contractors
• Support safety and building compliance
• Assist with event setup and basic exhibit upkeep
• Maintain museum grounds and outdoor areas

Requirements

• A minimum of 3–5 years of comparable experience in a museum or other institutional setting
• Experience in maintenance, facilities, or a related field
• Knowledge of older buildings or historic structures
• Ability to perform hands-on repairs
• Strong communication and organizational skills
• Comfortable supervising part-time staff and facility volunteers
• Someone dependable, proactive, and mission-aligned

Pay

• 20–25 hours per week (not to exceed 25)
• Weekday daytime hours with occasional weekend or evening needs
• $22–$24/hour, depending on experience
