Facility Maintenance Technician

About the role

The Maintenance Technician performs skilled and semi-skilled maintenance, repair, and preventative maintenance tasks at SVDP-owned and operated properties throughout Greater Cincinnati. This role ensures safe, functional, and welcoming environments for neighbors, volunteers, and staff. The ideal candidate has hands-on experience across building systems, takes pride in quality workmanship, and demonstrates ownership, accountability, and attention to detail. This position requires a self-motivated individual who can work independently, manage priorities, and take full responsibility for task completion, documentation, and service delivery.

Responsibilities

• Perform maintenance and repairs to interior and exterior building systems, including plumbing, electrical, carpentry, drywall, painting, and minor HVAC tasks.
• Assess maintenance issues, determine appropriate repair solutions, and address root causes to prevent repeat problems.
• Respond to routine and emergency maintenance requests across multiple SVDP facilities in a timely and professional manner.
• Conduct preventative maintenance inspections and proactively identify safety or operational concerns.
• Coordinate with vendors, contractors, and suppliers to ensure timely completion of projects and cost-effective solutions.
• Monitor work performed by external parties to ensure compliance with specifications, safety standards, and quality expectations.
• Maintain organized and accurate records of work orders, inspections, and material usage in the agency’s maintenance tracking system.
• Pick up, transport, and properly secure maintenance materials, tools, and equipment between locations.
• Move, assemble, and install furniture, fixtures, and equipment as needed.
• Adhere to all safety procedures and promptly report hazards, unsafe conditions, or maintenance risks.

Requirements

• Frequent driving, standing, walking, climbing ladders, and lifting or moving items up to 50 lbs.
• High School Diploma or GED required.
• 2+ years of hands-on experience in facilities maintenance, building trades, or a related field; additional experience is strongly valued.
• Valid driver’s license with a safe driving record and the ability to regularly drive between multiple SVDP locations.
• Reliable transportation to and from work is required.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and maintenance documentation.
• Familiarity with tools, materials, and equipment commonly used in building maintenance and repair (e.g., tape measure, level, etc.).
• Strong troubleshooting skills, sound judgment, and exceptional attention to detail.
• Intermediate computer skills for tracking work orders, including accurate documentation and task scheduling.

Pay

$20 to $25/hour
