About the role
The Facility General Manager (FGM) at Cabot Corporation's Midland, MI facility is responsible for overseeing the safe, reliable, and cost-effective operation of the manufacturing facility. The role involves leading cross-functional teams, ensuring compliance with internal and external requirements, and promoting continuous improvement.
Responsibilities
- Lead the safe production of products that meet customer expectations for quality, quantity, reliability, and service
- Direct cross-functional site activities and ensure compliance with company and external requirements across Manufacturing, Sales, SH&E, Finance, Quality, HR, and Community Affairs
- Build a culture of continuous improvement that strengthens process capability, improves reliability, reduces variability, and minimizes off-quality material
- Ensure safe, reliable, and cost-effective manufacturing performance for standard recipe products
- Ensure that the appropriate management of change process is followed
- Champion effective Human Resources processes and promote excellence in leadership, engagement, development, and workforce capability across the site
- Establish local initiatives that improve utilization of plant assets
- Manage the capital budget effectively through disciplined use of the capital management system
- Plan and control departmental budgets and expenditures to achieve financial targets established through formal planning processes
- Lead community outreach through a facility plan that reflects Cabot’s commitment to being a responsible and trusted neighbor
- Support the implementation and maintenance of the Responsible Care® Management System in alignment with RC14001® technical specification requirements applicable to the site or region
- Apply Performance Based Management by coaching and developing employees, direct reports, and matrixed team members while ensuring effective alignment with functional partners
Requirements
Bring deep knowledge of chemical manufacturing processes, safety procedures, continuous improvement methods, environmental requirements, and how a plant supports Cabot’s manufacturing objectives. Demonstrate the ability to organize and manage diverse resources, including budgets, while applying strong analytical judgment to complex and dynamic operating situations. Provide strong leadership for cross-functional teams and represent the site effectively with external stakeholders, community partners, and government agencies as required.
Qualifications
- Bachelor/University Degree, preferably in a technical discipline
- 7+ years manufacturing experience, including prior people/budget management experience
Skills
Strong leadership skills, ability to manage diverse resources, and strong analytical judgment are essential. Knowledge of chemical manufacturing processes, safety procedures, continuous improvement methods, environmental requirements, and how a plant supports Cabot’s manufacturing objectives is also crucial.
