About the Role

The Healthcare Facility Director is responsible for creating and maintaining a safe, attractive, and highly functional physical environment to support quality patient care and exceptional service for all customers. This leadership role oversees Plant Services (Building), Environmental Services, Safety, Security, Landscape/Grounds, Environment of Care (EOC) regulations, Life Safety, and Emergency Preparedness. Operating with discretion and independent judgment, the Facilities Director ensures operational excellence, regulatory compliance, and fiscal responsibility across all managed services.

Responsibilities

  • Direct site facilities operations teams to ensure regulatory compliance, quality assurance, and optimal financial performance in alignment with host hospital standards.
  • Ensure all building systems and equipment are installed, maintained, and operated in compliance with Joint Commission (EOC) standards, CMS, NFPA, OSHA, Title 22, and other local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Manage operational facilities spend, adhere to established operating budgets, and support capital equipment forecasting and multi-year capital project planning.
  • Act as the primary point of contact and escalation for facility-related concerns, fostering strong relationships with healthcare leadership, clinical staff, and internal support teams.
  • Maintain a safe, infection-controlled work environment by enforcing safety policies, and actively participate in hospital-sponsored committees such as Infection Control, Safety, and Disaster Preparedness.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.
  • Minimum of 7 years of facilities leadership experience within a hospital or healthcare environment.
  • Direct experience with Joint Commission (EOC) and CMS surveys at the hospital level, with a proven ability to maintain a state of perpetual readiness.
  • Hands-on experience working within a matrixed management structure or a distributed management organizational model.
  • Strong technical capability and understanding of critical building systems, including emergency generators, automatic transfer switches, UPS systems, power distribution, and medical gas.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in an Engineering discipline.
  • Master of Business Administration (MBA).
  • Working knowledge of Building Management Control Systems and Life Safety Systems.
  • Experience utilizing Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including PowerPoint, Visio, and Outlook.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with experience delivering presentations to diverse leadership groups.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and crisis-management skills with a history of leading large, complex teams.
