About the role
The Facilities Technician II is responsible for maintaining the safe, compliant, and efficient operation of a 55,000 square foot FAA Part 145 certificated repair station and MRO facility in Hauppauge, NY.
Responsibilities
- Perform routine and corrective maintenance on HVAC, electrical, plumbing, lighting, and overhead door systems, escalating only the most complex issues to the Facilities Supervisor
- Execute scheduled Preventive Maintenance (PM) tasks and help maintain accurate maintenance logs, service records, and equipment histories in compliance with repair station requirements
- Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic/hydraulic issues on industrial equipment and aviation ground support equipment
- Absorb and coordinate third-party vendors and contractors for specialized inspections, certifications, and repairs
- Assist with general building maintenance including carpentry, painting, minor structural repairs, and groundskeeping/snow removal as needed
- Conduct routine facility and safety inspections, identify hazards or worn components, and proactively address or report them
- Support the cleanliness and organization of the facility, including production floor, offices, break rooms, restrooms, and grounds
- Ensure fire and life-safety systems are functioning correctly and are tested/documented on schedule
- Respond to maintenance requests from building occupants and prioritize/resolve issues promptly
- Operate company vehicles and material handling equipment (e.g., forklift) to move tools, parts, and supplies between areas or job sites
- Maintain compliance with FAA Part 145 repair station requirements, OSHA regulations, EPA standards, and applicable building codes
Requirements
- 2–5 years of experience in building/facilities maintenance, industrial maintenance, or a related mechanical/electrical trade; aviation, manufacturing, or regulated-facility experience preferred
- Working knowledge of HVAC, electrical, and plumbing systems, with demonstrated ability to independently troubleshoot and repair common issues
- Some exposure to industrial equipment such as compressed air systems, generators, or pneumatic/hydraulic equipment preferred
- Comfortable using hand and power tools safely and effectively, with strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills
- Strong communication and customer service skills when responding to occupant requests
- Ability to pass a pre-employment and random drug and alcohol screening as well as a background check
- Ability to lift at least 50 pounds, work at heights on ladders and lifts, and in confined spaces, outdoor environments, and varying temperatures
- Manual dexterity and ability to constantly manipulate small to medium components
- Frequent use of hand tools, power tools, and cleaning/lubricating/painting chemicals
Skills
- High school diploma or GED required; trade school training or an associate degree in a mechanical, electrical, or facilities-related discipline preferred
- Valid state driver's license with a clean driving record required
- Forklift certification preferred, or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire
- OSHA 10-Hour (or higher) General Industry certification preferred, or willingness to obtain
