Examples of Duties Required

  • Maintains, monitors, and performs standard repairs to buildings and grounds.
  • Aids licensed electrician with non-technical repairs.
  • Maintains performance of heating, ventilation, and cooling systems; performs standard repair and replacement of components.
  • Performs non-technical maintenance tasks such as cleaning of heating and cooling fan coil units and adjusting system controls.
  • Performs non-technical maintenance of plumbing systems, including standard repair of leaking fixtures, cleaning obstructed waste lines, installing water coolers, and/or performing non-technical modifications to plumbing and water supply systems.
  • Performs carpentry maintenance tasks including routine sheetrock/drywall installation and/or repair, window, roof, cabinet, and countertop replacement, painting and texturing, and door and hardware installation.
  • Maintains inventory of parts and supplies for facilities repairs; orders materials as needed.
  • Ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices.
  • Documents facilities maintenance requirements; maintains appropriate records of work performed.
  • Performs snow removal, as required.
  • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

About the Role

The Facilities Technician position at Southeast New Mexico College (SENMC) involves performing multi-craft functions for the college. These functions may include non-technical electrical, plumbing, grounds, carpentry, locksmith, custodial, and painting tasks. The role also entails providing day-to-day coordination, teamwork, and leadership to other employees performing similar work. The Facilities Technician must have knowledge of one or more building trades including electrical, plumbing, HVAC, utility operations, building maintenance, and carpentry. They should also possess the ability to understand and follow specific instructions and procedures, use hand and power tools applicable to trade, assist with repair and maintenance of heating and cooling equipment, read, understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures, and use computers, preferably in a PC, Windows-based operating environment.

Responsibilities

The primary responsibilities of the Facilities Technician include monitoring, maintaining, and performing standard repairs to buildings and grounds; assisting licensed electricians with non-technical repairs; monitoring and repairing heating, ventilation, and cooling systems; performing non-technical maintenance tasks such as cleaning of heating and cooling fan coil units and adjusting system controls; performing non-technical maintenance of plumbing systems, including standard repair of leaking fixtures, cleaning obstructed waste lines, installing water coolers, and/or performing non-technical modifications to plumbing and water supply systems; performing carpentry maintenance tasks including routine sheetrock/drywall installation and/or repair, window, roof, cabinet, and countertop replacement, painting and texturing, and door and hardware installation; maintaining the inventory of parts and supplies for facilities repairs; ensuring proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; promoting continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices; documenting facilities maintenance requirements; maintaining appropriate records of work performed; performing snow removal, as required; and performing miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

To be considered for this position, candidates must have a High School Diploma or GED plus one (1) year of experience related to the standard duties as outlined. Equivalency: Any combination of education, training, and/or experience as approved by Human Resources.
