Summary
The Facilities Technician is responsible for maintaining the overall integrity, safety, and functionality of each facility. This includes executing routine and scheduled facilities maintenance tasks as well as promptly addressing unexpected repairs and damage to the building and grounds.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform daily, weekly, and monthly inspections of the facility to proactively identify and resolve maintenance issues.
- Plan, schedule, and prioritize repairs and maintenance activities within the defined facility scope.
- Troubleshoot building systems safely and in compliance with company procedures, audit standards, and safety regulations.
- Execute preventative maintenance programs for building systems and infrastructure.
- Perform minor and major repairs to building structures and systems, including plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and mechanical systems (excluding those under external service contracts).
- Maintain and monitor HVAC systems to ensure optimal performance and efficiency.
- Perform electrical maintenance tasks such as replacing light bulbs, repairing sockets, and maintaining circuit breaker panels, as applicable.
- Support the operation and basic repair of ventilation and refrigeration systems, where applicable.
- Complete and track facility work orders and service requests in a timely and organized manner.
- Troubleshoot and resolve in-house electrical and maintenance issues, consistent with skill level and safety guidelines.
- Complete general repairs, including fixing locks, replacing windows, and completing basic manual maintenance tasks.
- Inspect fire alarm and protection systems for visible damage and coordinate repairs as needed.
- Ensure adherence to quality standards, OSHA regulations, and all applicable safety requirements.
- Maintain clean, safe, and organized workspaces throughout the facility and grounds.
- Perform general facility upkeep tasks, including painting, cleaning, and maintaining building appearance.
- Communicate and coordinate with internal departments regarding maintenance activities and operational impacts.
- Support the development and implementation of facility safety and awareness programs.
- Accurately document all inspections, maintenance activities, repairs, and installations.
- Travel to Hanover Park and Itasca as needed.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by management.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED) required.
- 3+ years of industrial manufacturing maintenance/facilities experience, preferably in a GMP/FDA environment.
- Understanding, troubleshooting, and basic safety knowledge in equipment and electrical.
- Experience working with plumbing and power tools.
- Welding experience preferred, but not required.
- HVAC and PLC control logic knowledge preferred.
- Computer skills.
- Flexibility to work overtime.
- Bilingual in English/Spanish preferred but not required.
- Frequent travel to facilities in the West Suburbs.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to stand for an extended periods of time.
- Ability to wear any required PPE such as scrubs, hair net, lab coat, and facemask.
- Ability to work in a packaging area with a moderate powder substance in the air with or without a respirator.
- Ability to work above shoulders.
- Ability to climb ladders.
- Ability to work around a variety of different smells and aromas.
- Ability to adjust work schedule as business needs require.
