About the role

The Facilities Specialist maintains and operates production, process, refrigeration, HVAC, and site utility equipment in both GMP and non-GMP environments. This role ensures reliable, uninterrupted utilities for a pharmaceutical manufacturing site while strictly adhering to GMP guidelines and regulatory requirements. The Facilities Specialist collaborates closely with Utilities Maintenance, Process Engineering, and Quality teams to support compliant, efficient, and safe operations.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and operate production, process, refrigeration, HVAC, and site utility equipment in GMP and non-GMP environments to ensure reliable and continuous operation.
  • Perform corrective and preventive maintenance on clean and dirty utility equipment that supports uninterrupted utilities for the site.
  • Collaborate with Utilities Maintenance, Process Engineering, and Quality teams to ensure all maintenance activities comply with GMP guidelines and regulatory requirements.
  • Develop efficient maintenance job plans, procedures, and detailed work instructions for site equipment.
  • Recommend appropriate spare parts and preventive maintenance procedures to improve equipment reliability and reduce downtime.
  • Prepare and route documentation for spare parts requests and maintenance work order submissions using the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
  • Assist other departments in troubleshooting, testing, repairing, and optimizing equipment performance across the facility.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives related to maintenance, reliability, and facility performance.
  • Respond promptly to facility alarms and initiate appropriate corrective actions to protect equipment and maintain operations.
  • Cookordinate maintenance activities with internal stakeholders to minimize disruption to production and other critical operations.
  • Oversee contract service providers and support contractors during maintenance execution to ensure work quality, safety, and compliance.
  • Use automation and control systems, including PLCs and Building Automation Systems, to monitor, diagnose, and optimize equipment performance.

Essential Skills

  • Advanced experience and knowledge of maintenance disciplines within a cGMP biotechnology or pharmaceutical manufacturing environment.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of PLC and/or Building Automation Systems control systems in a regulated environment.
  • Proven knowledge and hands-on experience with a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS), such as SAP.
  • Demonstrated experience in problem solving and troubleshooting systems in a pharmaceutical or GMP environment.
  • Proficiency with tools and software such as CMMS (SAP), PAS, Pi, and PLCs.
  • 5+ years of relevant GMP or industry experience with a High School Diploma, or 4+ years of relevant GMP or industry experience with an Associate degree, or equivalent experience.
  • Strong organizational and planning skills to manage multiple maintenance activities and priorities.
  • Excellent interpersonal effectiveness and communication skills, both written and oral, to interface effectively across management levels and departments.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • High School Diploma with 5+ years of relevant GMP or industry experience, or an Associate degree with 4+ years of relevant GMP or industry experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Working knowledge of processes for fermentation, purification, utilities, and formulation in a pharmaceutical or biotechnology setting is preferred.
  • Experience working in a pharma manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams including Maintenance, Engineering, and Quality.
  • Capability to develop and follow detailed maintenance procedures, job plans, and work instructions.
  • Comfort working with automation, process control, and building management systems.

Work Environment

This role is 100% onsite at a pharmaceutical manufacturing facility in Holly Springs, NC. The position follows standard business hours, with the potential for some off-shift work to support maintenance activities and minimize impact on production. The environment includes GMP and non-GMP areas, clean and utility spaces, and a mix of production, process, refrigeration, HVAC, and site utility equipment. Work involves regular use of computerized systems such as CMMS (SAP), PAS, Pi, PLCs, and Building Automation Systems. The facility operates under strict regulatory and quality standards, emphasizing safety, compliance, and reliable operation of critical utilities.

Pay And Benefits

The pay range for this position is $38.00 - $44.00/hr.
