About the role

The Facilities Specialist position at Southwest Human Development supports young children and their caregivers by performing diverse maintenance services in the Early Head Start & Head Start departments and their locations. Duties include preventative maintenance checks, ensuring proper operations, cleaning, and monitoring for safety hazards.

Responsibilities

  • Perform general labor work as assigned, including loading, unloading, and stocking classroom supplies.
  • Maintain lighting systems, cleaning fixtures, and replacing lamps.
  • Maintain grounds, performing tasks such as pressure washing, sweeping, or leaf blowing.
  • Maintain classrooms and common areas, cleaning windows, floors, rugs, tables, and chairs.
  • Monitor the facility for safety hazards or property condition concerns and report them to the supervisor.
  • Perform basic plumbing, electrical, carpentry, HVAC, and painting tasks.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • A high school diploma or GED.
  • One (1) year experience in facilities, maintenance, and janitorial.
  • A highly organized individual with a demonstrated ability to work independently.
  • Possession of an insured and reliable vehicle, a valid AZ driver’s license, and a valid Arizona Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card.
  • Preferred three (3) years’ experience in facilities/maintenance/janitorial.
  • Fluency in Spanish and English is preferred.
  • Experience using Microsoft Word is preferred.

Qualifications

  • Ability to lift 35 - 50 pounds.
  • Ability to reach/work in ceilings without assistance.
  • Ability to stoop, bend, and squat for appropriate amounts of time.
  • Ability to sit or kneel for periods of time on the floor without assistance.
  • Ability to get up and down from the floor without assistance.
  • Ability to run after a child if necessary.
  • Ability to climb flights of stairs.
