About the Role

Rowan-Cabarrus Community College is seeking a Facilities Services Technician III who will perform skilled maintenance, repair, and construction of HVAC, plumbing, electrical systems, and building structures. This position will be primarily based at one of our Cabarrus County campuses (South campus in Concord, NC), with some flexibility to assist at our NCRC campus in Kannapolis and our CBTC campus in Concord.

Responsibilities

  • Performs general building repairs, light construction, renovations, and painting; occasionally works as the lead technician over others.
  • Operates equipment and tools for mowing, leaf pickup, digging, landscaping, snow removal, and other assigned duties.
  • Assists with estimates and occasionally requisitions materials required for repairs and alterations.
  • Completes work orders as assigned, ensuring the highest levels of customer service.
  • Assists with periodic inspections of buildings and performs preventive maintenance procedures.
  • Answers complaints, keeps records, and submits reports of work completed and in progress.
  • Maintains records and accounts of inventories of materials and tools.
  • Participates in assigned tasks and accepts other duties as needed or assigned.
  • Engages in college activities such as emergency response, safety procedures, and safety training.
  • Ensures compliance with regulations, including personal protection, building codes, emergency egress codes, and OSHA standards.
  • Successfully participates in training for employees and other maintenance personnel.
  • May be called in for critical system repairs, snow/ice removal, or emergency duty; work schedule will be adjusted accordingly.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.).
  • Five (5) years of experience in facilities maintenance activities.
  • Valid NC driver’s license.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certifications relevant to HVAC, plumbing, electrical, or general facilities maintenance.

Physical Demands

Positions in this class typically require: climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, driving, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions.

Heavy Work: Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Incumbents may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, electrical currents, fumes, odors, dusts, gases, poor ventilation, chemicals, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, work space restrictions, intense noises, and travel.

Pay

Minimum salary: $50,000 annually (non-exempt).

Schedule

Flexible starting time between 7:00 AM and 8:00 AM, as directed by supervisor. Subject to call-in for critical system repairs, snow/ice removal, or emergency duty.
