Facilities Safety Specialist 2
About the role
The Facility Safety Specialist II position is responsible for managing all aspects of the Facilities Safety OSHA programs at Case Western Reserve University. This role involves creating and delivering compliance training, conducting safety inspections, and managing various safety programs.
Responsibilities
Manage Facilities Safety Program: Create and deliver all compliance training for Facilities such as OSHA, NFPA, EPA, OOH, CDC, and other regulatory bodies (20%).
Conduct weekly visits of the renovation sites across campus: Inspect and evaluate safety and compliance-related incidents to ensure all federal and state regulations are being strictly followed. Follow up and track corrections to deficiencies. Perform root cause and incident investigation techniques when required, including collection of safety and health standard incident reporting forms and documentation (20%).
Create communication and identify opportunities for improvement: Provide site-specific safety briefings and/or training to assure that facilities employees are aware of university policies, hazardous waste, universal waste, and other university-specific programs (15%).
Manage the Lock-Out Tag-Out program and maintain inventory of the individual procedures: Provide expert oversight of the LOTO shutdown procedures. Conduct annual training for all CWRU personnel required to work lock and tag out affected equipment (15%).
Manage Hearing Conservation Program: Coordinate the testing of areas found to exhibit loud equipment or devices and annually arranges for the hearing testing of all employees exposed to loud devices and equipment (10%).
Manage Confined Space program and maintain inventory of permit required spaces: Provide expert oversight and analysis of requirements to enter confined spaces. Conduct annual training for all CWRU personnel required to work in a confined space (10%).
Audit and maintain record of all maintenance PPE and equipment: Perform yearly audit of Facilities zones to assure proper selection and usage of PPE is maintained. Maintain all administrative tasks related to specific safety documentation/ filing systems, etc. including OSHA record keeping (10%).
Nonessential Functions: Create, communicate, and identify opportunities for improvements in university safety. Facilitate and/or conduct various safety related training activities including OSHA compliance (5%).
Perform other duties as assigned: (less than 1%)
Qualifications
Experience: 5 to 10 years of experience with construction health and safety
Education/Licensing: Bachelor's degree required, preferably in safety and health or related field. Current driver's license.
Skills: Awareness of OSHA guidelines, including Asbestos Management Planner requirements and OSHA 1910 and 1926 as they relate to construction. Knowledge of Safety Data Sheet (designed to provide both workers and emergency personnel with the proper procedures for handling or working with a particular substance).
Required Skills: Working knowledge of applicable federal and state safety and health regulations (Fire, EPA, OSHA, Ohio Department of Health). Working knowledge of safety/environmental principles and techniques. Capable of identifying known/potential exposures and recommending corrective actions. Ability to read blueprints. Must be able to drive a car from site to site. Must be able to wear respirator protection, eye protection, hearing, and body protection as required by the conditions of the job. Must not have a fear of heights, animals, radioactive materials, chemicals, or biological materials. Ability to meet consistent attendance. Must be able to work on construction sites in all forms of weather. Demonstrated history of successful support, education, and advocacy for all students, aligned with the values, mission, and messaging of the university, while adhering to the staff policy on conflict of commitment and interest. Strong management, leadership and interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate well both verbally and in writing. Ability to interact with colleagues, supervisors and customers face to face.
