About the role

The Safety Specialist will coordinate and implement the field safety program for routine and increasingly complex construction projects. This position conducts safety inspections, identifies and documents abatement of hazardous conditions, writes reports, and performs trend analysis—all in support of JE Dunn’s strategy, vision, and values.

Responsibilities

• Coordinates and implements the field safety program for routine construction projects.
• Conducts regular walk-through inspections of construction sites to ensure compliance with laws and Company policies.
• Performs safety audits on assigned projects by identifying, documenting, and recommending abatement of hazardous or potentially hazardous conditions to internal and external clients.
• Uses internal safety management systems to document findings and track abatement techniques and closure.
• Conducts project-specific new hire orientation and oversees drug and alcohol policy compliance.
• Monitors implementation of prime contractor and/or subcontractors’ safety programs.
• Attends project pre-planning, progress, and other relevant meetings to discuss safety-related matters.
• Supports field leadership in implementing safety program specifics, such as meetings, committees, and related activities, and chairs the project safety committee.
• Assists in investigating project-related accidents, determines root causes, and recommends process changes to prevent recurrence.
• Coordinates with injured employees and clinics to ensure timely treatment and return-to-work at some capacity.
• Compiles progress summary reports of injuries for supervisors and monitors the site safety incentive program.
• Applies advanced safety knowledge to identify complex safety issues and provide sophisticated abatement solutions.
• Uses in-depth knowledge of equipment, laws, and work processes to make project-specific safety recommendations.
• Demonstrates strong communication skills and plays an active role in meetings.
• Performs trend analysis using internal safety management systems to identify safety trends, problem areas, and recommended solutions.
• Provides guidance and training on basic and intermediate safety topics for new or existing safety and project team personnel.
• Assists safety leadership during insurance audits.
• Oversees more complex projects, including one large or complex project and/or multiple projects.

Requirements

• Ability to perform work accurately and completely in a timely manner.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Proficiency in MS Office.
• Knowledge of and ability to enforce all federal, state, local, and company safety regulations.
• Intermediate proficiency in company safety software, processes, and tools.
• Ability to recognize hazardous situations and implement corrective measures.
• Ability to build relationships with team members that transcend a project.
• Proficiency in required construction technology.
• Ability to build relationships and collaborate within a team, internally and externally.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a safety and health-related field (preferred). Equivalent relevant experience will be considered.
• 2+ years of construction safety experience (required).

Pay

Base compensation for the Safety Specialist 2 role is between $80,000 and $100,000, depending on experience, and may exceed this range for candidates with exceptional experience and a demonstrated history of successful performance. The role is also eligible for a target bonus based on individual and company performance.
