Position Summary

The Facilities & Production Support Specialist plays a critical role in supporting the efficient operation of pharmacy production systems, automated dispensing equipment, and facility infrastructure. This position is responsible for maintaining production line equipment, troubleshooting hardware and software issues, performing preventive maintenance, and supporting facility operations to ensure uninterrupted workflow and operational excellence. Working closely with Pharmacy Operations, Facilities, and external vendors, this role serves as a key resource for equipment reliability, facility readiness, and process improvement initiatives. The Facilities & Production Support Specialist supports both day-to-day operations and strategic projects involving production automation, facility expansion, and technology enhancements. This role is ideal for a hands-on professional who enjoys solving technical challenges, maintaining equipment, and ensuring critical systems operate safely and efficiently in a fast-paced pharmacy production environment.

Essential Duties / Responsibilities

  • Facility Maintenance & Infrastructure Support
    • Respond to maintenance work orders and facility-related service requests in a timely and professional manner.
    • Perform routine, scheduled, and preventive maintenance on building systems and equipment.
    • Support the maintenance and repair of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and general facility infrastructure.
    • Inspect building systems and equipment regularly to identify potential issues and recommend corrective actions.
    • Cook up maintenance activities with external contractors, service providers, and vendors as necessary.
    • Support the Facilities Manager with ongoing building maintenance and operational initiatives.
  • Production Equipment & Automation Support
    • Monitor production floor equipment, automated dispensing systems, and fulfillment technologies to ensure optimal performance.
    • Troubleshoot and resolve issues involving production line hardware, software, automation equipment, and related technologies.
    • Perform routine equipment inspections and maintenance in accordance with manufacturer specifications and internal standards.
    • Aid with equipment setup, configuration, testing, and operational readiness activities.
    • Support the implementation and maintenance of automation solutions that improve workflow efficiency and productivity.
    • Identify opportunities to enhance equipment performance, reliability, and production processes.
  • Preventive Maintenance & Operational Excellence
    • Develop, document, and maintain preventive maintenance schedules for production equipment and facility systems.
    • Ensure preventive maintenance activities are completed accurately and on schedule.
    • Maintain maintenance records, service logs, and related documentation.
    • Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on equipment reliability, facility performance, and operational efficiency.
    • Aid with root cause analysis and corrective action activities related to equipment failures and operational disruptions.
  • Project Support & Cross-Functional Collaboration
    • Serve as a liaison between Facilities and Pharmacy Operations to align maintenance and production support activities with operational priorities.
    • Aid with projects related to facility construction, expansion, automation, and production readiness.
    • Collaborate with internal departments and external vendors to support maintenance and operational initiatives.
    • Participate in special projects involving equipment installation, upgrades, process improvements, and operational enhancements.
    • Aid in ensuring effective communication regarding equipment status, maintenance activities, and facility-related concerns.
  • Compliance, Safety & Documentation
    • Follow applicable safety procedures, maintenance standards, and organizational policies.
    • Maintain compliance with building codes, safety regulations, and operational requirements.
    • Utilize technical manuals, maintenance schedules, and equipment documentation to support maintenance activities.
    • Promote safe work practices throughout the facility and production environment.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Skills / Abilities

  • Facilities & Technical Expertise
    • Working knowledge of building systems, maintenance practices, safety procedures, and applicable building codes.
    • Experience troubleshooting and supporting automated equipment, production systems, hardware, and basic software systems.
    • Ability to interpret technical manuals, maintenance schedules, and operational documentation.
    • Understanding of preventive maintenance concepts and equipment reliability practices.

  • Physical & Operational Requirements
    • Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
    • Ability to work extended hours, weekends, and holidays as business needs require.
    • Ability to safely operate tools, equipment, and maintenance-related machinery.

  • Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, Word, and Excel.

Education / Experience

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Two (2) to four (4) years of experience in facilities maintenance, production line support, equipment repair, or a related technical environment.
  • Experience supporting automated equipment and production technologies.
  • Licensed Pharmacy Technician credential or the ability to obtain licensure.
  • Experience with mechanical troubleshooting and equipment maintenance preferred.
  • Experience providing basic IT hardware and software support strongly preferred.
  • Familiarity with building codes, safety regulations, and preventive maintenance programs preferred.

Preferred Skills / Abilities

  • Prior experience within Retail Pharmacy, Mail Order Pharmacy, Specialty Pharmacy, distribution, manufacturing, or healthcare environments.
  • Experience within facilities maintenance, production support, or industrial maintenance operations.
  • Knowledge of Building Automation Systems (BAS) and Building Management Systems (BMS).
  • Experience with badge access and security systems such as Verkada and Win-Pak.
  • Familiarity with pharmacy fulfillment equipment and automation technologies.
  • Experience supporting equipment installations, facility expansions, and operational readiness projects.

Work Environment

Production and warehouse-based environment with exposure to operational equipment, machinery, and moderate noise levels. Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, and move throughout the facility for extended periods of time. Ability to lift, pull, push, and carry materials, equipment, and containers weighing up to 50 pounds. Frequent interaction with production equipment, automation systems, maintenance tools, and facility infrastructure. Ability to perform work requiring physical strength, gross motor skills, and fine motor coordination. May require occasional local and/or overnight travel to support facility, operational, or project needs.
