About the role
The Facilities Planning & Capital Projects Student Assistant position supports the Facilities Management Department at the Cal Poly Maritime Academy's Solano Campus. The position offers hands-on experience in planning, analytical, and operational functions, aligning with the academy's mission and the Cal Poly Learn by Doing philosophy.
Job Duties
Administrative Support: Filing and organizing project documents, maintaining digital records, preparing meeting agendas, and taking meeting notes.
Project Support: Updating project management software and spreadsheets, gathering data for project reports and presentations, and supporting project coordination activities.
Campus Planning and Space Support: Conducting research on facilities, space utilization, and campus needs, collecting and analyzing data, and creating maps, charts, and reports.
Facilities Support: Assisting with building preparation for moves, renovations, events, or occupancy changes, moving and organizing equipment and materials, updating inventory records, and responding to basic facilities-related requests.
Technical Tasks: Working with AutoCAD, Revit, GIS, or other design software, creating project dashboards and data visualizations, and assisting with sustainability, energy, or facilities assessments.
Qualifications
Undergraduate students must be in good academic standing (minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5).
Availability to work a varied work schedule.
Able to lift, carry, push 30 pounds regularly/occasionally.
Able to ascend and descend stairs (three flights of stairs).
Self-motivated and able to work independently with minimal supervision.
Excellent time management, communication, administrative, organizational, and customer service skills.
Ability to respond to safety and emergency situations.
Proficient use of basic computer applications.
Understanding and support of the University Housing Services Mission, Goals, and Values.
Available to work days, nights, weekends, and holidays as scheduled.
Skills
