Facilities Operations Technician V – Mechanical (IC5/OPX)
About the role
This position requires U.S. citizenship and is located onsite in Saline, Michigan. Relocation assistance may be available in accordance with Oracle's relocation policies.
Responsibilities
- Define, review, and improve mechanical and HVAC architectures and designs for high-availability environments, including chilled water, DX, airside systems, and redundancy strategies.
- Lead complex troubleshooting, incident investigations, and root cause analysis for high-impact or recurring mechanical and HVAC issues.
- Develop and maintain site or fleet-aligned standards for cooling redundancy, controls integration, equipment selection, and mechanical system performance.
- Partner on capacity planning, retrofits, and emerging initiatives, including liquid cooling and efficiency projects, ensuring operability and maintainability.
- Lead or support vendor technical reviews, commissioning acceptance criteria, and operational handover requirements.
- Partner with procurement, facilities, engineering, and construction teams to improve total cost of ownership through standardization and performance-driven specifications.
Requirements
This position requires extensive (5-7+ Years) experience with mission-critical mechanical systems in data centers, industrial environments, healthcare, semiconductor, or other high-availability facilities. Strong understanding of cooling system design and operation, controls integration, redundancy strategies, lifecycle performance, and operational risk. Demonstrated ability to lead complex technical work and support critical operational decisions.

- Ability to communicate technical risk and tradeoffs clearly to a range of audiences.
- Ability to influence teams through standards, analysis, and operational alignment.
Skills And Competencies
- Deep experience with chilled water plants, large-tonnage cooling systems, CRAH/CRAC infrastructure, controls integration, redundancy planning, and data center cooling performance.
- Experience reviewing commissioning plans, sequences of operation, maintenance strategies, failure modes, and incident response documentation.
- Ability to mentor less experienced technicians and support technical development across the team.
- EPA Section 608 Technician Certification preferred where refrigerant-handling responsibilities apply.
- ASHRAE credentials are highly relevant for advanced mechanical roles; ASHRAE’s certification program currently includes HVAC-focused credentials, and CHD specifically validates HVAC design competency.
- Schneider Electric University data center cooling and energy coursework, including DCCA-oriented learning, can strengthen broader data center infrastructure knowledge.
- OEM factory training or certification on chillers, cooling towers, controls systems, CRAH/CRAC platforms, and liquid-cooling-related infrastructure strongly preferred.
Physical Demands / Work Environment
This is a mission-critical role supporting 24/7 operations where 100% uptime is essential; as such, regular attendance and flexibility for shift-based schedules are required. To perform these duties, you must be able to frequently walk, bend, kneel, crouch, push/pull objects, and climb stairs. You will be required to lift or move up to 39 pounds independently and participate in group lifts for loads 40 pounds or greater. Additionally, you must be capable of maintaining balance while working from a ladder or elevated platforms. These tasks are performed in an industrial environment and must be executed safely, with or without reasonable accommodation, to maintain the continuous health of the facility infrastructure.
Benefits
Ranging from $91,400 - $187,000 per year, the role may be eligible for bonus and equity.
