About the role

The Facilities Manager oversees all district custodial and grounds employees, ensuring high standards of care, cleanliness, sanitation, and repair and appearance of the district buildings. They are responsible for recruitment, selection, hiring, assignment, training, supervision, and evaluation of custodial and grounds personnel.

Responsibilities

  • Aid in the following duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Director of Facilities.
  • Recruitment, selection, hiring, assignment, training, supervision, and evaluation of custodial and grounds personnel at all district facilities.
  • Establish and implement schedules and procedures for the regular ongoing custodial and grounds maintenance of school district facilities.
  • Perform regular periodic inspections of all district facilities, make corrections, and provide feedback to ensure high standards of care, cleanliness, sanitation, and repair and appearance of the district buildings.
  • Develop and implement appropriate safety training and other in-service programs for facility staff to ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local authorities and monitor the use and storage of prescribed chemicals for cleaning and pest control.
  • Assessment of needs and recommendation for developing a budget to implement long-range facilities custodial and grounds plans and goals.
  • Allocation of the current school year budget for custodial and grounds programs, including producing contracts and purchase orders.
  • Maintain, organize, and supplement the district work order and asset management software in collaboration with other facility managers.
  • Provide administrative support for principals and school buildings, focusing on the building environment and its contributions to student learning and instructional effectiveness by maintaining an empowering infrastructure.
  • Develop and maintain a complete inventory of all custodial and grounds equipment and its upkeep, as well as schedule repairs and preventative maintenance.
  • Work with local trash and recycling vendors to provide services and scheduling of services to the district facilities and mediate collection issues for custodians.
  • Prepare annual custodial and grounds maintenance reports.
  • Notify the Director of Facilities when an employee is not meeting standards to determine disciplinary actions as needed.
  • Implement the Integrated Pest Management Program, working closely with the grounds lead.
  • Implement the Storm Water Management Program, working closely with the grounds lead.
  • Responsible for proper athletic/playfield care and sports activity preparation.

Requirements

The Facilities Manager must have or be able to obtain a Washington State Public Operator License within 90 days and maintain it yearly thereafter. They must have an associate degree or equivalent and five years of experience in building maintenance and/or supervising a large facility complex.

Skills

The Facilities Manager should possess strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills, as well as the ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.
