Facilities Management Crew Leader
About the role
Franklin County is seeking a Facilities Maintenance Crew Leader to lead their team and ensure buildings are safe, efficient, and welcoming. This role involves guiding daily operations, supporting a hardworking crew, and ensuring repairs, improvements, and preventive maintenance are completed with excellence.
Responsibilities
- Reviews preventive maintenance plans for repair and maintenance
- Supervises and participates in semi-skilled trades work, grounds maintenance, and custodial work
- Assists in monitoring to ensure maintenance and custodial staff are meeting work objectives and offers help and support as needed
- Plans, schedules, and supervises the maintenance and upkeep of the buildings, grounds, and facilities
- Maintains records on maintenance schedules, maintenance contracts, and follows through to ensure compliance
- Supervises and leads employees in all trades common with facility maintenance such as sheetrock repairs, painting, carpentry, HVAC, electrical, plumbing, flooring, masonry, welding, cutting at a journey level
- Ensures all mechanical, plumbing, and electrical devices work properly and that HVAC equipment is serviced and maintained
- Provides guidance and assistance in the execution of assignments and responsibilities; trains and instructs employees on work team and on individual basis concerning areas of assigned work; trains new staff; assists with hiring; provides performance coaching and evaluations
- May perform custodial duties or oversee maintenance staff in custodial duties in employee absence or as needed; may stock restrooms and supply rooms as needed; may participate and lead maintenance employees in the stripping/waxing of floors and cleaning carpet
- Gathers quotes for materials, equipment, and contract services as requested by the Maintenance Director
- May coordinate and oversee and inspect the work of contractors engaged in buildings and grounds maintenance and repair work
- Maintains records and reports of work requests and repairs and reviews employee time sheets
- Purchases equipment supplies and materials as needed for efficient work processes and ensures County guidelines are followed
- Prepares and keeps operating records and reports as required by the Director; ensures all workorders are completed and returned to office staff timely
- Assists other departments as needed during natural disasters; assists with shelter setup during emergencies after hours or during inclement weather
- Uses work order system to receive and delegate assignments
Qualifications
- Journey level knowledge of the principles and techniques of the various skilled trades required of the position
- Thorough knowledge of the methods, tools, and equipment used in the assigned trades
- Thorough knowledge of safety regulations, occupational hazards, and related safety precautions in the work
- Ability to diagnose and repair problems and plan and organize appropriate corrective action
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions
- Ability to exercise independent initiative
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, supervisors, and other County employees
- Ability to carry out effective principles of first level supervision to other maintenance workers
- Ability to communicate by phone or email
- Ability to use a computer and specialized software programs
