Facilities & Maintenance Technician

About the Role

Perform skilled maintenance, repair, adjustment, and minor construction work in the trades to ensure facilities are properly maintained. Duties may fall into a variety of trades, including carpentry, painting, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, fire and life safety, and security systems. Perform general custodial and other tasks as assigned. Facilitate construction, modification, maintenance, and repair of all Gift of Hope building facilities, including tasks related to buildings, structures, grounds, plantings, plumbing, painting, lighting, custodial duties, fire/life safety, elevators, mechanical/electrical systems, parking lots, facility entrances, and equipment.

Responsibilities

• Adhere to all policies and procedures while carrying out job responsibilities.
• Organize, schedule, and perform professional/technical equipment installations; monitor start-up of new installations and report findings.
• Schedule and facilitate vendors for equipment installation and repair at all Gift of Hope facilities.
• Plan, organize, control, integrate, and execute projects related to construction, maintenance, and repair of buildings and features such as HVAC, plumbing, electrical, painting, landscaping, and custodial services.
• Coordinate contracted services to accomplish repairs and bring in appropriate resources.
• Participate in investigation, troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance of buildings and equipment.
• Establish and carry out a preventive maintenance program for all buildings per manufacturers’ recommendations; serve as project manager for compliance with federal, state, and local codes.
• Submit bids and recommendations to management for consideration.
• Act as liaison with city, county, and state regarding fire, security, and occupational safety codes.
• Ensure facilities meet government regulations and environmental, health, and security standards.
• Prepare and file required Physical Plant Services reports with the authority having jurisdiction.
• Prioritize and perform work on submitted work orders by departments.
• Work with Purchasing/Contract Coordinator and management to schedule equipment service contracts, preventive maintenance, warranties, and repairs.
• Ensure security and emergency preparedness procedures are implemented properly.
• Handle emergencies as they arise and communicate workplace safety precautions to employees.
• Maintain a system of repair parts and facilities supplies.
• Oversee plans, material lists, and estimates for building projects, renovations, or refurbishments.
• Inspect buildings, equipment, and systems to identify issues.
• Repair faulty equipment units and damaged structures.
• Perform general maintenance tasks, including electrical, carpentry, plumbing, and painting.
• Repair, maintain, and monitor all equipment and amenities.
• Record and document all inspections, problems, and solutions.
• Clean windows, glass doors, change light bulbs, and perform other custodial work.
• Remove and properly dispose of recyclable materials.
• Check and respond to security and safety issues.
• Maintain exterior property.
• Travel to all three building sites to inspect facilities, buildings, and grounds for routine maintenance; prioritize repairs and renovations.
• Run errands as necessary.
• Promote an environment supporting quality assurance and performance improvement.
• Actively contribute to a culture of cybersecurity awareness and protect organizational data.
• Complete all required administrative tasks, training, and honor commitments in a timely manner.
• Engage in learning and professional development opportunities.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma, with certification in HVAC or building maintenance technology preferred, or comparable work-related experience.
• Training in mechanical and electrical systems preferred.
• Minimum of 3 years’ industrial maintenance experience.
• Strong manual dexterity and problem-solving skills.
• Detailed oriented.
• Experience in heating, air conditioning, and refrigeration preferred.
• Familiarity with building trades, construction methods, materials, HVAC systems, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems, repairs, and maintenance.
• Ability to utilize tools needed in the work environment.

Schedule

• Standard work schedule: Monday-Friday, 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
• Participate in a rotating on-call schedule with weekday coverage Monday-Friday from 7:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m.
• Weekend on-call coverage begins Friday at 7:00 p.m. and concludes Monday at 7:00 a.m. during assigned rotation periods.
• Must be available to respond to facility-related emergencies and operational needs during scheduled on-call periods.

Physical Demands

• Ability to sit, stand, bend, stoop, kneel, climb ladders, and walk to perform job duties.
• Ability to lift and move up to 50 lbs.

Work Environment

• Normal office environment with travel across the state to maintain all Gift of Hope buildings.
• Must be able to work and respond outside normal business hours if an emergency arises.
• Carry a personal cell phone to be accessible outside regular business hours.
• Use of personal car for work.
