Facilities Maintenance Technician

General Statement of Job

The purpose of this classification is to perform repairs, coordinate, and monitor operational building maintenance activities for Police Precincts, Arts Centers, Recreational Center, Fire Stations, and other City‑owned facilities in multiple locations around the City of South Fulton. Under the general supervision of the Facilities Maintenance Manager, the employee performs a wide variety of repairs and maintenance for city buildings and facilities as required.

Responsibilities

• Perform skilled/manual work functions associated with general maintenance of assigned facilities, including installing/repairing plumbing systems, laying tile flooring, and troubleshooting HVAC units.
• Perform routine semi‑skilled maintenance to ensure facilities are available for use and consistently maintained in a safe and clean condition.
• Repair and maintain facilities and equipment; conduct general construction, repair, and installation tasks.
• Carry out basic plumbing, electrical, carpentry, masonry, landscaping, and other maintenance tasks.
• Operate a variety of maintenance and cleaning tools and equipment as required.
• Work independently or with other skilled or semi‑skilled workers, taking responsibility for completion of assigned tasks.
• Install/repair doors, change light bulbs, replace locks, fences, and perform light plumbing duties and fixture repairs.
• Replace windows, repair gutters and roof leaks, assemble furniture or equipment, hang pictures and blinds, and move furniture.
• Maintain inventory levels of tools and materials; order supplies as needed and pick up special parts from suppliers.
• Identify and request supplies needed for repairs and preventive maintenance of building systems.
• Perform other related duties as required.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required; vocational or technical training in building maintenance, HVAC, plumbing, electrical, or a related field preferred.
• Three (3) years of experience in HVAC, plumbing, electrical, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience providing the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities.
• Valid Georgia driver’s license with an acceptable driving history.
• Ability to perform the essential functions of the position; reasonable accommodations may be made for individuals with disabilities.
