Utilizes knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic equipment to install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair machinery or equipment. Diagnoses issues with machinery components and determines when adjustments or repairs are needed. Responsibility level increases with experience and expertise.
Responsibilities
- Reads and interprets equipment manuals to perform required maintenance and service.
- Performs planned preventive maintenance on conveying systems, power transmissions, and other power-driven rotating equipment to prevent plant breakdowns, adhering to company and federal standards.
- Communicates equipment issue resolutions to operators.
- Works in extreme and often dirty environments.
- Repairs or coordinates repair of worn or defective machinery/equipment; tests machines to ensure quality and production rate meet specifications.
- Performs extensive housekeeping duties using small tools, hand-powered tools, and knives while complying with safety regulations.
- Maintains logs for daily equipment inspections to minimize downtime risk.
- Establishes and adjusts work procedures to meet production schedules; advises Plant Maintenance Manager of additional work needs or completion constraints.
- Recommends measures to improve production, equipment performance, and product quality; responds to emergency breakdowns.
- Cleans, inspects, and performs routine maintenance or minor repairs on recycling equipment (e.g., discs, belts) to ensure MRF equipment functionality.
- Participates in training and learning opportunities to expand knowledge of the company, products, sales, and services.
- Performs other duties as needed to support company vision, mission, and core values.
Career Path
The role offers defined progression through three skill levels:
- B Technician: Demonstrates full understanding of Level C skills and begins mastering Level B skills.
- Mechanical: Grease bearings, identify belt types, lubricate (gear oils), use ladders/lifts/filter carts, and apply Level C knowledge.
- Electrical: Knowledge of wire sizes, splice connectors, voltages, reading sub-panel labels, resetting breakers, and troubleshooting tripped breakers.
- A Technician: Demonstrates full understanding of Level B skills and begins mastering Level A skills.
- Mechanical: Use calipers, read nameplates, change bearings/gearboxes/shafts/pulleys/conveyer belts, weld with torches, use hydraulic wrenches, change motors, diagnose motors/gearboxes, make hydraulic hoses, and apply LOTO procedures.
- Electrical: Use colt/multimeter, wire motors/voltage, troubleshoot motors, test fuses, change starters/overloads/input-output cards, program UFDs, run/bend conduit, wire motors as “Y” Delta, read nameplates, and change breakers in panels.
- Master Technician: Demonstrates full understanding of Level C, B, and A skills.
- Mechanical: Vertical/overhead stick welding, diagnose dialed motors/gearboxes/pumps, rebuild gearboxes/solenoids/motors/pumps (hydraulic/water), read hydraulic schematics, weld ½” steel or larger.
- Electrical: Read electrical schematics, work with low-voltage/control wiring, 480/240/120-volt circuits, perform isolation tests on motors, diagnose profibus circuits, size conduit/wire/count, wire new panels by schematic, and balance load calculations.
- Leads and trains small teams.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED.
- Progressive technician training and 1–5 years of experience diagnosing and repairing equipment.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
- Legal eligibility to work in the U.S.
- At least 18 years of age.
- Ability to work overtime as needed.
- Physical ability to lift 50 pounds frequently.
- Excellent listening, problem-solving, and multitasking skills.
- Ability to read and write English.

Pay
$20.00 – $25.00 per hour.
