Facilities Maintenance Technician 1st Shift

Armstrong has an opening for a Facilities Maintenance Technician on first shift. Armstrong Rapid Manufacturing has been in business for over 50 years in the East Syracuse, NY area. Armstrong specializes in both prototyped and low‑volume production machined castings.

Summary

The work involves responsibility for performing semi‑skilled building and grounds maintenance, maintenance repair, and related tasks and activities which may be performed indoors or outdoors under adverse working conditions. Work may be assigned to multiple buildings. Skilled‑trade knowledge is not necessary because this position does not normally perform skilled techniques. Maintains a clean working environment for facility(ies).

Responsibilities

• Perform semi‑skilled building maintenance and repair such as changing ballasts, light bulbs, repairing toilets, patching sheetrock and tiles, and basic painting tasks.
• Perform manual labor related to building and grounds maintenance and repair.
• Paint surfaces, attach baseboard edging, apply floor coatings, perform basic framing and plumbing (e.g., replacing toilet stoppers, water level parts), and change filters.
• Perform exterior building maintenance and cleaning tasks, including power washing, snow and ice removal from walkways, and applying salt/de‑ice material during winter.
• Participate in general grounds maintenance activities such as weed removal and other tasks as directed.
• Conduct routine checks of facilities to ensure conditions remain clean and safe.
• Document routine inspection and maintenance activities and notify management of deficiencies or repair needs.
• Make adjustments and minor repairs as needed.
• Stock and maintain supply rooms and ensure adequate janitorial consumables.
• Follow all health and safety regulations and company safety policies, consistently using personal protective equipment and practicing good housekeeping.
• Complete required reports, records, weekly inspection plans, and checklists, submitting them on time to the direct manager.
• Meet quality and quantity standards for the position.
• Maintain regular on‑time attendance and adhere to company policies, procedures, and standards of conduct.
• Support the ISO process approach to quality management and the Syteline MIS system.
• Perform other tasks as directed.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• 1–3 years of full‑time (or equivalent part‑time) experience in general building construction, building cleaning, building maintenance, or repair work.
• Valid driver’s license (subject to New York State DMV check) and own transportation to travel to various company buildings in East Syracuse, with an acceptable driving history.
• Ability to operate equipment such as floor cleaning machines, mops, brooms, vacuum cleaners, and to use basic tools (hammer, shovel, paint brush, etc.).
• Ability to understand simple oral and written directions and interpret work orders.

Pay

Salary range: $18.00 – $25.00 per hour.
