Facilities Maintenance Mechanic
About the role
This role supports the safe, efficient operation of university buildings, infrastructure, and mechanical systems through hands-on work in multiple trades and facility support functions.
Responsibilities
- Perform skilled maintenance, repair, and renovation work involving mechanical, electrical, plumbing, architectural, and steam systems.
- Troubleshoot facility issues, respond to service requests, and perform repairs to infrastructure, drainage systems, fencing, roadways, and campus grounds features.
- Cook up and repair equipment while maintaining computerized maintenance records and work logs.
- Maintain tools, equipment, inventory, and a safe work environment while supporting campus maintenance projects, special events, and Facilities Services operations.
- Respond to emergency service calls, urgent repairs, and safety-related issues to restore facility operations and mitigate risks.
- Support project planning and material procurement.
- Provide direction to student assistants and support special events, vehicle maintenance coordination, and campus operations.

- Work knowledge of computerized maintenance and building automation systems.

- Four years of increasingly responsible experience leading to journey-level skills in a mechanical or facilities/building trade, or any equivalent combination of training and experience as a facilities and systems mechanic which demonstrates the achievement of journey-level skills equivalent to that acquired through completion of an applicable apprenticeship program.

Schedule
Standard SDSU work hours are Monday – Friday, 1:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., but may vary based on operational needs.

SDSU Imperial Valley is an integral division of SDSU located 120 miles east of the San Diego Campus. SDSU Imperial Valley Sciences and Engineering Laboratories and are in Brawley, CA, providing access to laboratory, classrooms and research facilities and the school of nursing connects our faculty and students with more than 100 community partners throughout San Diego and Imperial Valley. The Brawley location is 24 miles north from Calexico site and also this site is falling with the scope of this position. The Calexico Physical Plant consists of approximately 8 acres, with 15 buildings. The Brawley location is 24 miles north of the Calexico site. It is surrounded by rich agricultural fields, the largest industry in the Imperial Valley. Brawley houses five classrooms, including one classroom with video conference capabilities, and one computer classroom. Four years of increasingly responsible experience leading to journey-level skills in a mechanical or facilities/building trade, or any equivalent combination of training and experience as a facilities and systems mechanic which demonstrates the achievement of journey-level skills equivalent to that acquired through completion of an applicable apprenticeship program.
