About the role
Under the direction of the Director of Facilities, responsible for the day-to-day maintenance and physical well-being of the Ontario Convention Center and Page One Café, including all functions related to utilities, HVAC, structural, and repair. Supervises engineering staff on a daily basis.
Responsibilities
- Assists the Director of Facilities in development and implementation of facility compliance with applicable codes and regulations, corporate best practices, local codes, and CAL/OSHA.
- Hands-on working knowledge of HVAC systems and mechanical equipment, electrical systems and equipment, fire suppression systems and equipment, kitchen systems and equipment, and energy management systems.
- Assesses the knowledge, skills, and abilities of engineering staff; coordinates training for professional development.
- Directly responsible for all activities within the engineering department, including employee discipline, annual evaluations, scheduling preventive maintenance (PM), and special projects.
- Hands-on performance and coordination of routine maintenance, ensuring all equipment is maintained to factory specifications.
- Performs major and minor repairs to heating, ventilation, and air conditioning equipment.
- Repairs and maintains food service equipment, including ovens, grills, dishwashers, deep fryers, and refrigeration units.
- Responds to public inquiries courteously; provides information and resolves complaints efficiently.
- Oversees and implements SMG's Altum system for work order processing from entry to completion; ensures balanced workload and timely completion of work orders.
- Ensures safety plans are fully in place, staff is trained on proper safety issues, and all safety policies are followed.
- Attends weekly operations, staff, safety, and SECO meetings; takes notes.
- Operates equipment including forklifts, power sweepers, power scrubbers, boom lifts, electric carts, and miscellaneous hand and power tools.
- Recommends requisition of supplies and materials to the Director of Operations.
- Completes detailed daily reports at the end of each shift.
- Serves as the primary safety coordinator for the Ontario Convention Center.
- Performs other duties assigned by the Director of Operations.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED.
- C-10 License.
- Five years of supervisory experience in the operation of large public assembly, hotel, or other commercial facilities.
Qualifications
Desirable:
- AA/BA/BS Degree with an emphasis in mechanical engineering and/or C-20 License.
Skills
Extensive Knowledge of:
- Operating principles of a wide range of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning units.
- Maintenance and repair techniques of food service equipment.
- Electrical best practices.
- Life/safety and fire control systems.
- Building Automation Systems.
Ability to:
- Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
- Relate technical information to non-technical individuals.
Skill Set:
- Excellent organizational skills.
- Ability to prioritize and handle multiple projects simultaneously.
- Strong customer service skills.
- Operate modern office equipment, including computers and applicable software.
- Operate a motor vehicle.
- Operate equipment such as forklifts, boom lifts, electric carts, and radio devices.
Physical and Environmental Requirements
- Tasks are performed with moderate supervision without assistance for 40% of the workday; involves pushing, pulling, lifting, stooping, bending, and lifting at least 50 lbs.
- Walking for long distances for more than 50% of the workday.
- May require work inside or outside the building, as needed by events.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays, in addition to normal business hours.
- Employees may be scheduled to work until 12:00 AM or later.
- Must pass a background check.
- Must use precautions and follow safety guidelines.
Pay
$75,000 - $80,000 per year.
Schedule
Full-time, exempt position.
