About the Role
This position is within the Facilities department at Honda Development & Manufacturing of America, LLC (HDMA). The Facilities team oversees building operations, including new construction, remodels, utility management (electric, compressed air, natural gas, water), building maintenance, and end-of-life equipment replacements and upgrades. The goal is to create a facility that serves customers effectively while maintaining high standards.
Responsibilities
- Perform preventative maintenance and repairs on facilities equipment and systems (mechanical, electrical, HVAC, building controls).
- Complete daily assigned work orders and communicate follow-up needs.
- Evaluate and recommend equipment improvements to enhance availability, capability, and yield.
- Suggest and revise preventative maintenance procedures to maintain facilities equipment.
- Conduct equipment failure analysis, including preventative and unscheduled maintenance.
- Troubleshoot and diagnose equipment problems.
- Participate in a reliability-centered maintenance program for equipment.
- Engage in team activities to develop and maintain long-term equipment reliability.
- Support total equipment management through proactive activities to improve operations and meet business targets.
- Provide mentorship and team-building through effective work habits, communication, and knowledge sharing.
- Expand technical expertise through formal and on-the-job training.
- Support innovation by leveraging new technologies, methods, and approaches to enhance competitiveness.
Requirements
- Completion of a 2-year technical degree or equivalent equipment service experience.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in a Facilities environment (industrial or heavy commercial); well-qualified entry-level candidates may be considered.
- Working knowledge of Facilities low and medium voltage electrical equipment (substations, switches, cable, starters, VFDs, MCC, breakers, bus duct) and Building Management Systems.
- Ability to troubleshoot mechanical equipment, such as HVAC, refrigeration, air compressors, air dryers, boilers, cooling towers, pumps, plumbing, and piping.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to clearly express ideas.
- Compliance with Honda Health and Safety Policies.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel).
- Self-motivated, creative thinking, and a positive attitude with a focus on continuous improvement and customer service.
- Ability to use time effectively and prevent distractions from interfering with work completion.
- Demonstrated ability to plan and prioritize work assignments, set clear milestones, and meet deadlines.
- Ability to collect and analyze data, identify root causes, and develop effective countermeasures.
Working Conditions
- High level of physical activity, including walking, stairs, climbing, and working in hot/cold climate conditions.
- Participation in Honda-related improvement activities, such as the Honda Improvement Program (HIP).
- Work primarily in interior and exterior facilities, mechanical rooms, and manufacturing floor environments.
- Occasional trips to other plants or suppliers (less than once per month).
- Ability to collaborate effectively with production teams, equipment service associates, and contractors.
- Willingness to suggest improvements or enhancements to facilities operations.
- Ability to prioritize work assignments with efficient time management.
- Willingness to work weekends, all shifts, overtime, and shutdowns as required.
- Completion of the required Equipment Service Technical Development Program (TDP), consisting of approximately 700 hours of classwork and hands-on training over a 4-year period.
- Demonstrated competence with Honda Core Non-Exempt Role and Responsibilities for Maintenance Technician/Equipment Service.
