About the role
This position is a Facilities Electrician under the direction of a foreman, supervisor, or other designated management employee. The role involves enhancing and supporting District facilities through trade skills such as electrical, HVAC&R, plumbing, etc.
Responsibilities
- Work independently, be self-motivated, and exercise sound judgment while accomplishing tasks required to maintain, improve, remodel or construct District facilities.
- Demonstrate positive support for and implementation of District decisions.
- Maintain an attitude that welcomes change, looks for ways to improve the work environment, and seeks to improve service to other departments.
- Work together in cooperation with supervisor, foremen, and other personnel to ensure facilities are maintained or improved and projects are completed.
- Accomplish all electrical craft work at the journeyman level.
- Operate, maintain, repair and install heating, ventilating, air conditioning (HVAC) systems, including refrigeration work.
- Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot repair pumps, cameras, electric security systems, fire alarm systems, lighting/power circuits, UPS/back-up generators, pneumatic systems/equipment, and other related systems.
- Use hand tools, power tools and welding equipment; read blueprints and schematic drawings; use measuring and test instruments as needed in the operation and troubleshooting of HVAC systems, equipment and controls.
- Perform or direct the performance of others in areas of HVAC, plumbing, physical structures and grounds keeping.
- Provide building construction observation and inspection services as needed.
- Specify, estimate and select material requirements.
- Read and update facility drawings and specifications.
- Read and interpret schematic diagrams.
- Establish and adhere to safe construction work areas and shop practices.
- Guide and direct contractors as needed or instructed.
- Layout, specify and order materials for repair, remodel and addition work.
- May be assigned Building Maintenance Worker or Facilities Serviceman work as needed.
- Actively participate in all aspects of our safety program, including but not limited to: Following all safety policies and procedures; Alerting supervisors and coworkers to unsafe or hazardous working conditions; Reporting any safety incidents or close calls within 24 hours to your supervisor; and Accepting feedback from supervisors and coworkers regarding your own safety performance.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED from an accredited institution.
- Valid driver’s license with no driving restrictions.
- Current First aid card including CPR training equivalent to the State of Washington requirements for Industrial First Aid or ability to obtain within six (6) months of hire.
- Five or more years’ experience in HVAC and journeyman status in an electrical or mechanical craft.
- Must possess a valid Washington State (01) General Electrician card.
- Thorough knowledge and understanding of the operation, maintenance, repair, and installation of heating, ventilating and air conditioning (HVAC) systems.
- Completed Building Operator Certification program or ability to obtain within twelve (12) months of hire.
- EPA-608 certification or ability to obtain within six (6) months of hire.
- Successfully pass and continuously maintain eligibility under a NERC Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) security background check, and to complete and adhere to all required CIP security training for access to and work within CIP-protected areas.
Qualifications
- Write legibly and be able to maintain records, files and fill out forms.
- Able to use a computer for sending and receiving email, maintenance management software, and for general maintenance needs.
- Knowledge and understanding of District Policies and Procedures.
- General knowledge of the District’s Strategic Plan.
- Demonstrated ability to follow oral and written instructions, learn quickly, work independently, exercise sound judgment and be self-motivated.
- Demonstrated ability to use all necessary tools including power and air tools, test equipment and other equipment associated with electrical and HVAC&R.
- Excellent skill in the use and repair of construction/maintenance hand and power tools.
- Ability to guide and direct student helpers.
- Knowledgeable in fire and building codes.
- Read and update Facilities plans, drawings and specifications.
- Ability to update and maintain maintenance management records.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently, remain self-motivated, and maintain a professional, collaborative, and customer-focused approach.
Physical Requirements
- Work outdoors in all local climatic conditions.
- Ascend and descend stairs and ladders.
- Climb to access the work as needed.
- Work in confined space or areas of restricted movement.
- Work in close proximity to high voltage equipment.
- Lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Sufficient physical fitness and abilities to complete normal and routine maintenance tasks.
Payscale and Schedule
The wage rate for this position is $68.90 hourly. The schedule is subject to change based on the needs of the District. For the most current information, please refer to the District's Human Resources department.
