About the role
This position plays a critical role in maintaining a safe, clean, and functional healthcare grounds environment and is responsible for the upkeep of facility infrastructure, grounds, and equipment to support patient care, staff operations, and regulatory compliance.
Responsibilities
- Maintain hospital grounds including landscaping, snow removal, and exterior cleanliness.
- Safely operate and maintain a range of grounds maintenance equipment—including mowers, trimmers, blowers, and other tools.
- Perform basic landscaping tasks: edging, pruning, and weeding.
- Remove snow in winter months using a truck with plow, Ventrac, and hand shoveling.
- Conduct inspections and preventive maintenance to ensure compliance with healthcare regulations (e.g., DNV, OSHA, NFPA).
- Assist with environmental services and infection control protocols during repairs and renovations.
- Support facility readiness for emergency situations, including backup power systems and disaster preparedness.
- Coordinate with vendors and contractors for specialized repairs and inspections.
- Maintain accurate documentation of work orders, inspections, and compliance logs.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work in various indoor and outdoor conditions.
Requirements
- 2+ years of experience in building maintenance and grounds/landscaping, preferably in a healthcare or institutional setting.
- Valid NYS Driver’s License.
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with DNV standards and healthcare compliance requirements.
- Familiarity with infection control and safety protocols in clinical environments.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals.
- Strong communication and customer service skills.
Physical Requirements
Medium Work – Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects; requires frequent walking, standing, or squatting.
Pay
Pay range: $19.75 – $25.06 per hour.
Schedule
40 hours per week, 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM.
